Yes, it is approximately 3.5 to 4". I bought it for my granddaughter and by memory, it is equivalent to a small juice glass.

Q: are any of these hollow, like if a child were to bite the banana, would it smash flat?

I can't remember if anything is hollow but if so, I can't imagine anything could be smashed flat. The only problem we had was that the milk came our of the glass early on. It's been glued back in and has been fine. I've purchased this - and other similar baskets for my twin grandchildren- starting shortly after their first birthday. They are now 21-months old and continue to play with these items regularly. They understood right away that this is pretend food and they offer the "food" to each other and other family members and guests. The food baskets are among their favorite toys.
