A**.
For the last 13 months, I've been suffering/recovering from adrenal fatigue. I've been house-bound and many days, bed-ridden. On the rare occasions where I've been able to go outside, I'd go for a brief walk, only to have to nap upon returning home. For anyone experiencing this debilitating condition, you know just how severe the fatigue is. I'm an ex-runner, so you can imagine how mind-numbing, frustrating, and downright depressing this condition has been for me. Over the course of these last 13 months, I've done little else besides research adrenal fatigue and experiment with supplements, reading both scientific journal articles as well as anecdotal evidence from others with the affliction. Adrenal fatigue differs from CFS and fibromyalgia in significant ways, but the endless fatigue is one symptom that is common amongst all three conditions. Well, I've treated the adrenals; I've treated the underlying Candida infection; I've corrected the mineral/electrolyte deficiences; I'm working on detoxing my lymph and liver. Basically, I attacked adrenal fatigue from every angle I could, yet my energy was still tanked. Once again, I came back to the internet and started reading more about CFS and fibromyalgia. Since these two conditions are at least recognized by the medical community (unlike adrenal fatigue), I thought maybe there would be more information out there, something I had overlooked. Once I happened upon Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum's website and read what he had to say about d-ribose, suddenly it all made sense. (I'm a biologist, so I've got a meager understanding of how the body works.) Immediately, I began researching "mitochondrial dysfunction" and its causes. Boy, did I fit the bill. I came back to amazon, poured over the reviews here from people with CFS or fibromyalgia, and immediately ordered this powder. I was so anxious to try it that I couldn't even wait for it to arrive. Yesterday I sent my boyfriend to the natural foods store a few blocks away, where he picked me up Now Foods Ribose 750mg, Veg-capsules Bioenergy, 120-Count . I took 6 capsules immediately (which I estimated to come out to about 5 grams or so). An hour later, I felt the effects. I'm not kidding. Trust me - if you knew adrenal fatigue, you'd know there's no way I'd be subject to placebo effect. Besides, after so many other failed treatments, I was scared to have hope and wasn't really expecting much. I took 2 more "doses" throughout the day and felt so much better than I had in months! Last night was the first night I slept a solid, uninterrupted 7 hours in a year! UNBELIEVABLE. Today I again took 5g 3x/day, as Dr. Teitelbaum recommends, and I feel improvement still. I've been able to eat less, which is a wonderful side effect; because in the last year, I've gained 35 pounds from having to eat constantly to prevent an adrenal crash. I knew that I had to be missing a key nutrient, and it seems that I've stumbled upon it. I'd give this stuff 10 stars if I could. If you're suffering from any kind of chronic illness/fatigue, please, please try this. I wonder how much suffering I could have spared myself if I had known about this months ago. In any event, I've got a looong way to go until I'm recovered, but with this, I now have hope that I will recover. I wasn't so sure before and was starting to become quite depressed. I will try to update again in a few weeks to see how well this product is still working. I also ordered Jarrow Formulas Acetyl L-Carnitine 500mg, 120 Capsules , Source Naturals Ubiquinol CoQh 100mg, 90 Softgels , and NOW Foods Nac-Acetyl Cysteine 600mg, 250 Vcaps in the hopes that these products will amplify the results of the d-ribose on my mitochondria. My d-ribose powder arrived today, so I'm eager to start using that in lieu of the capsules. Oh, it's incredible to have happy mitochondria again! UPDATE 10/19/11 I'm still taking the ribose, 1/2 tsp. 2-3 times a day with meals. This product, in conjunction with detoxing, daily glutamine supplementation, probiotics and dietary changes, Lypo SphericTM GSH , and Dr. Myhill's methylation protocol, has made a tremendous difference in how I feel. Again, I've still got a long way to go until I'm completely recovered; but in the last month, I've felt a great deal of progress. I'm able to leave the house again and no longer worry about adrenal crashes. I continue to sleep more soundly at night and feel less zombie-like, in general. At long last, I'm on my way to feeling almost normal.

Okay so this is the only review of any health product that I have ever done in my life. I have tried so many things to help with fatigue, muscle aches, pain, etc. etc. I have had all of my fillings replaced, tried different types of doctors from endocrinologists to naturopaths to acupuncture, tried no sugar, no carb, low carb, high carb, every kind of supplement, you name it I have tried it all in the past 20 years. I found d-ribose by searching for muscle soreness because I was not able to exercise because of the extreme soreness that followed, at times I was barely able to walk. I read that athletes take it for muscle recovery and found that many people with fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue take this- so I ordered it to try it. I started out with one level teaspoon per day as I am very sensitive to what seems like everything- it didn't really seem to do anything and I didn't feel much different but I continued to take it. After 3 weeks my dose was up to about 2 teaspoons per day and I began feeling like what normal people must feel like. I realized that many of the things that I typically do to avoid paying for it later were okay to do. For instance, I have to keep my right arm in a certain position or I will experience neck pain, or if I carry groceries I can only carry a small amount at a time or pay the consequences later. So over the course of a month I had pushed the boundaries and NOTHING major happened! I am at the point of my second month and have hired a personal trainer! and every time I panic a bit during some of the exercises that he has me do. In the past I would be with frozen pea bags, ibuprofen, exhausted and in pain the next day. Now the soreness is manageable and does not stop me from continuing to exercise. Yesterday, I was in the car after a long day with my very energetic 7 year old and husband who is also a very high energy person and I suggested that we not go home and find something else to do- both of them were exhausted and protested- this has never happened to me in my entire life where I wasn't the one who was tired and ready to end the day! I sleep better at night, wake earlier in the morning, and feel overall better in my energy. There is no high, or anything like that at all, I cannot tell that I have taken it, I just feel better. This is the first time that I think that I have ever even finished a full bottle of something- even when I didn't know if it was really working or not, my body seemed to want it every morning. It tastes great- a little sweet and is very easy to drink, not powdery, dissolves easily. I don't want to say that this was a cure-all but it has worked better than anything that I have ever tried in over 20 years.

It seemed to give me a little more stamina in the gym, but i'm not exactly certain. From what i've read, d-ribose is a really good product though. It's sweet and easy to use at least. Price on amazon is better than anywhere else. Give it a shot. I would suggest getting off the caffeine though to really see how good any supplement works on you though. Caffeine seems to work good on its own, but it pretty much makes a lot of supplements useless, especially creatine.
