Gator EFX Hard Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover for 2021-2026 Ford F-150 5'7" Bed

I installed this tonneau on my truck six months ago to protect some cargo on a trip from NY to Iowa. The installation was a little tricker than I thought. I had a very hard time getting the brackets to feel secure. I'm still not entirely sure it is on 100% but it hasn't flown off yet! In fact, when I was in Iowa in May there were some severe tornados in the area. I was driving 70 MPH with a steady 40 MPH crosswind for 1-2 hours and it didn't budge even a little bit! That trip gave me good peace of mind that it isn't going anywhere, but I still check it from time to time and cinch the bracket bolts and the bolts that keep the front section in place occasionally. I am surprised that they loosen up as much as they do. I think the manufacturer should put a little loc-tite or thread locker to make sure the bolts don't back out. Another point of concern is the weather stripping. It seems to deform easily over time and has shown a considerable amount of wear under normal use in just six months. It isn't tearing, but it is showing stress marks where the panels fold back on the other panels. Hopefully this doesn't get worse over time. The tonneau has kept things very dry. I routed the drain hoses out the existing bed accessory plugs and didn't have to drill through my factory bedliner. I use my truck more now for long trips. It's been great on a couple camping trips this past summer, and nice that I don't have to use tarps to protect the gear in the bed. I also keep a small toolbox and a few essentials in the back and I don't worry about it getting exposed to the elements or prying eyes. The other week I got some new appliances and liked how easily it was to fold up and secure in the open position to haul taller items. I wish I would have got a hard tonneau years ago. I don't think I'll ever own another truck without one! *** UPDATE September 2026 *** The cover worked great on my 2018 truck, so I am updating the review from 4 to 5 stars. It made a lot of long journeys, most recently in May a 3,000 mile trip through some torrential rainstorms in OH and KY and no major leak issues at all. So it came time to trade in my 2018 F150 with 5.5' bed and I got a 2026 F150 with a 5.5' bed. I took the 3.5 year old cover and rails off my 2018 truck and was surprised that they did not leave any physical blemish to my old truck at all. I was expecting something to look different, but there was not even the slightest scratch. Now for the best part... The 2018 rails and cover fit the 2026 F150 perfectly! Even though it's a different generation of truck the bed (as long as it's the same length from truck to truck) is identical. The cover looks great on the new truck and I'm very happy I did not need to buy a new one. It even seemed to install easier than last time and the power tailgate works both down and up. Drain holes were even the same in both factory spray-in bed liners so I routed the hoses the same way. Nice!

Got this for my F150 Lightning and I’m the install was easy. The longest part is getting the rails on the sides of the bed correctly as it’s not so easy to line them up and jockey the parts of the clamps. But I was doing it solo and it does say to use 2 people. It seems to be mostly waterproof, but it hasn’t rained a lot since I installed it. It holds up to car washes, though. It looks great on the truck and turns the bed into a lot of extra secured, weather protected storage. The only negative is that you can secure it with only 1/3 folded and it will catch wind and fly closed at moderate speeds. But it does travel well with the last panel just resting in whatever prevents it from closing. Taking it off if you need the whole bed is simple and a 1-person job.

Just put it on my 2026 F150 today and the installation was easy with Youtube. It took me about an hour, but only because the QR code they give for installation instructions required a product number and nothing I entered worked. Overall, it feels solid, was easy to install, and appears to be good quality. Time will tell if it keeps water out though.

Very easy to install only took an hour looks great on the truck

Installed on my 2024 Ford F-150, the Gator EFX Hard Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover has exceeded expectations. The installation was quick and straightforward—no drilling or complicated tools required. Once in place, it fits snugly and securely, offering excellent protection from rain and dust. It’s truly leak-proof, even during heavy downpours. One of the unexpected perks has been improved gas mileage, likely due to the aerodynamic design. Plus, it looks fantastic—sleek, low-profile, and perfectly matched to the truck’s lines. Pros: Easy, no-hassle installation Leak-proof and weather-resistant Noticeable improvement in gas mileage Stylish, low-profile design Con: To access the full bed, the entire cover must be removed Verdict: If you're looking for a durable, great-looking tonneau cover that boosts performance and protects your gear, the Gator EFX is a smart investment—just be aware of the full-bed access trade-off.

Update 4: Gator has denied any warranty options because the version I bought was Sold by and Shipped by Amazon. I originally contacted them on 10/19, my Amazon return window closed on 10/29. Gator was no reply until 11/5. So I am screwed now. DO NOT BUY THIS COVER! Update 3: Gator has not responded to my email from 5 days ago. Terrible customer service. Spend the money to get the name brand cover that will honor a warranty. Update 2: I have been trying to talk to “Jeff” at Gator about the leak and what options there are to correct it or warranty exchange. Communication has been awful, slow and not professional at all. Short and dismissive and its been a few days since I have received any more replies. True you get what you pay for. Should have bought the B*KFl** Update: After the first real rain, I went out to look in the bed of the truck to find that more than a little water was dripping in from a screw that holds the nylon straps. Not only was I frustrated to think about water making it into the bed, after further thought, the fact that rain (while the truck sat parked) was making somehow inside the rail channels to even get to this screw. I have sent a message to the seller but have received no response. The cover also has a few spots in the black top where there little white specks of the white undercoating. The black finish must be pretty thin. Also, not having the third section fold up against the glass to have more use of the bed has quickly shown to be a bother. Even for things such as washing the roof of the truck cab by standing in the bed. I know this is a cheaper version of the “name brand”... but still was hoping for a bit better experience out of the box. Original: Cover looks great, seems well built so far. The written instructions are close enough to get it installed. The only part that wasn’t mentioned in the paper instructions but is in the installation video, is the location to put the foam tape on the bulkhead. The only thing so far that I have noticed that would be nice from the competitor is that it has a 4th hinge just a few inches from the bulk head. This would allow you to fold the last panel up and lean on the glass to allow use of more of the bed. The design of this cover would require complete removal to use the last 1/3 of the bed. Some water did manage to enter the bed in a touch less car wash test. But thats high pressure sprayers and not likely going to happen in normal rain conditions.

It was relatively easy for one man to install. The instructions are pretty good - but like most things once you make all the mistakes and finally get it installed the next one would take about 1/3 the time. As it was it took about 45 minutes. It works well with my Ford tailgate and keeps almost all water (including car wash) out of the bed. You get a little bit- a few drops. No issue for me. It fits perfectly and has stood up to a few months of opening/closing. No complaints. It open and closed easily. If I get another truck this is exactly what I will get. I was told by several folks before I bought a cover to get a 3 piece. A two piece is heavy to open.

This tonneau cover is awesome! I've owned several of the cheap vinyl roll up covers on my trucks before, but this one is amazing. I installed it by myself and took my time. A 2nd person would have made easier, but was still simple to install. Took me about 2 hours. It's not heavy at all. But definitely sturdy and well built. Packaged came with no visible damage and after unpacking and checking, everything was perfect and all parts were there. I'm still in awe at how sleek and low profile this cover is. Makes my truck look even better. Haven't driven in rain to test water leakage cause I just installed it. I checked all areas underneath and see no light coming through. The only possible spot for water to get through would be at the corners of tailgate area. I do see some small gaps there. Nothing is perfect when it comes to truck tonneau covers. Anyways, I love this cover and couldn't be happier with my purchase!!
