This thing is as loud as everyone says, but I found an easy way to fix it. If you take out the five screws and open it up, you’ll see two little yellow prongs at the center of the spool. Those are your noisemakers. They serve no functional purpose. If you bend down those prongs or cut them off, the toy becomes nearly silent but works exactly the same.

My three year old loves this toy! We are on our second one because he literally wore out the first one. So having said that, with extended use the tape on this can wear out. I think he just used it too often and the tab broke off and things got stuck. I think that it is good enough quality to invest in another one. Do note that it does make a loud noise when you reel it in. It doesn't bother me, but it may be annoying to some.

I did not expect how loud this would be. It makes a clicking sound when winding and unwinding. It was also larger than I realized. My kids liked it. After about a year, the plastic piece came off the end of the tape from the kids pulling on it.

Depending on how your kid uses it, my rambunctious 4 yr old brings me it in 3months, 2year old still using his going on 6 months. I bought them to prevent them from hurting there fingers with dad auto retracting metal one Is a noisy toy

This is an AMAZING toy!! I love that it is accurate in measurements...some are just toys and the measurements are inaccurate or don't exist(pretend only-which honestly is confusing), which means that this "toy" can grow with my daughter and be used for years to come. It's quite durable, my 3yr old has been using it many times a day for a week and it looks brand new...This thing has been inside and outside, all over measuring everything she can find...which is also helping her with her numeral identification. The tape part is nice because it is vinyl(easy to clean, won't hurt little hands, and hard to rip). With a large, easy grip, pull out tab. The handle is perfect for little hands to hold, both in carrying and in using. It is easy for my 3yr old daughter to roll up by herself with the winder. This is a great tape measure for boys or girls :-)

This tape measure is great for kids! Our little one has a fascination with tape measures so he is over the moon about this toy! A little noisy, but doesn't bother me. Seems sturdy! Larger than expected but in a good way
