Q: What do the different colored balls mean?

The hot green, purple, and aqua blue are exactly the same smaller sized balls. The deep blue is a more firm slightly larger ball set and the grey alpha balls are the largest most firm size. Having each size is very useful. The smaller ones do well for the feet, neck and shoulders and back. The other sizes do well for the shoulders, back, hips, and thighs though the medium sized deep blue plus size can also work on the neck and feet but is a more firm pressure than these small ones. Seriously, I used different ones depending on the day and how I feel. Hope that helps.

Yes the do, and they get a little softer with use. I recommend using them on your feet first and as you put pressure into them, they soften up even more.
