Review: beautiful, inspiring pictures on heavy paper and sewn binding ... - Lovely book, beautiful, inspiring pictures on heavy paper and sewn binding make book feel hand made. I love looking through it. The patterns and techniques in the book originally intimidated me. It is a different kind of sewing than what I have done - attention to detail versus getting it done quickly. After completing the 1st project though, I found that french seams are not hard to do, and they really are nice, especially with ravelly fabric. All the patterns are easy to find and trace on the pattern sheets, lastly, directions are illustrated and written clearly. Review: Fantastic Pattern Book! - This book is easy to follow and read. Each pattern has 2-3 variation options to customize each piece. My sewing teacher introduced me to Merchant & Mills and everything that they sell is amazing! We made a sleeveless version of the Curlew pattern. It's a bias cut top that lays perfectly. We made it out of light-mid weight linen. Bias cut is so comfortable for me...and no zippers or buttons! I can't wait to make a Curlew dress variation next! Patterns Included: The Bantam (boxer-back top or dress) The Curlew (bias top/dress with many sleeve variations) The Saltmarsh (simple, long, gathered skirt with drawstring waist and side pockets) The Heron (bat-winged wrap top with shawl collar and side tie) The Haremere (oversized, drop-shouldered jacket or coat) The Strides (wide-leg trouser or shorts)

The designs are nice and it looks like the sewing directions are adequate ...
The designs are nice and it looks like the sewing directions are adequate but to get a working pattern you have to trace pieces that are given in pieces! For a dress, say, the top part of the sleeve is on the other side of the same piece of paper from the lower part of the sleeve (the sleeves are not pieced themselves just the pattern) the same is true of the front of the dress, to get one pattern piece you must trace it from two places and line up and tape the tracings together. I got annoyed and gave up. Perhaps I will try again, but it could have been easily avoided by them just printing each pattern piece in one entire piece. They could have super imposed pieces if saving paper was so important. In my opinion, it would have been easier for the user. If you have a lot of patience and a lot of tracing paper this may be a book for you.

What Goes Around...
I bought this for my wife who’s taken to it with a passion for sewing. I first ran across this book in a sewing shop and what struct me immediately was that this felt like an art book. Some people have criticized the drawings of the outfits. I love their wrinkly, almost haphazard way in which they’re depicted. It’s like the person just took them off and tossed them onto the bed, happily gotten a day’s worth of wear out of it. The patterns are not difficult to follow and as the creators said, it’s a return to sewing with passion.

Sustainable Wardrobe Workbook
This workbook is very thorough and from a company I admire. There are 6 patterns, thoroughly outlined instructions & patterns printed on paper that follow, and most patterns have variations. Most of them work well with linen, which is one of my favorite fabrics to work with. I love the versatility and approach of this workbook and am excited to get started.

SUPERB-WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND
DO NOT ALLOW THE COVER TO FOOL YOU. This is absolutely a very well written, brilliantly presented, professionally executed product. From the collage of their collection, to models wearing the fashion to give you a very good idea of the drape and appearance of the clothing when finished, to articles on sewing and finishing each pattern; and, BONUS, the patterns are provided. Hats off to Merchant & Mills Workbook for a job exceedingly well done. Excellent for beginners and professionals .... ideas, advice, and the finished product. The patterns can be used as foundation patterns to create other designs if you so desire.

A wardrobe in a book...
A lovely book. Contains a collection of paper patterns with photos and instructions on how to make up the patterns. I believe that they go up to a uk 18 but check the Merchant and Mills website for a size guide and a look at the pattterns in the book. A range of patterns, some easy some not so, so if you sit a bit outside the size range and are happy with grading your patterns you'll still be able to use this. Goes well with their two other Books. Patterns are for quite plain clothes but they are designed to be a comfortable, everyday wardrobe. Beginners might want to try the simple patterns first. Book is inspiring to look at, makes you want to learn new techniques so you can sew the items. I love the rather utilitarian look of the book and the clothes. Saves ££££'s on the price of the individual patterns.
