My Review of Liberty Street's Home Manage Software
I have been using the trial version for about a week now. There is a learning curve with regards to the original setup for the field names and columns names to fit the user's choices vs. the default setup. In my case the best feature of this application is the ability to import an existing database. I have nearly 1,000 items in the 20 year old program I am currently using, and none of the home inventory programs I have tried do not provide any method of importing an existing database. I have no desire to re-enter every item, and all of the details of each item of my current database into a new program. The best part of this program is that you can import any existing database via a spreadsheet created from an exported file of your existing program. My current program exports all data to a .txt file which in turn can be converted by MS Excel to a comma delimited spreadsheet. I saved the spreadsheet as a .txt file, a .csv file, and as an .xls file. This program can import access (.mdb), excel (.xls), and comma delimited text (.csv) files. I tried the .xls file first which worked fine with one exception. The serial number field appears to be formatted as a number only field and when imported would only show serial numbers that did not have any alpha characters in the serial number. So I emailed tech support and I received a reply the next day advising I should try using the .csv file spreadsheet as the import rather than the .xls file. I did as they said and the import worked great, including all of the serial numbers. This import feature alone is worth the price of this application in my opinion. As the other reviewer wrote, yes there are some bugs, but nothing that I was not able to deal with, and did not cause any problems to the program as a whole. The only thing I have not tried and can not comment on would be the backup and restore process which saves the database in a "zip" file. So based on the low price, and the great import feature, I feel this program deserves 5 stars, but reduced by 1 because of the bugs.

Total Disappointment
Cannot understand why reviews were so positive when in reality this program is a real disappointment in its intended use. I tried very hard to use it properly but the software just don't work.

Avoid this product!
I have been putting the evaluation version of this product through some testing. The program has a lot going for it - great features, very good UI, very flexible, very powerful - it should be a winner. However, the current version as of July 2010 has some pretty signficant bugs, and there appears to be no support. The company does not respond to emails, and a review of their forum shows a lot of people frustrated with lack of response to support issues. On top of that, they apparently don't offer any upgrade path - people on the forum also complain about being unable to purchase an upgrade at any kind of discount whatever. It's really a shame, as the program could easily be one of the best in this price range, but it seems like they put it out there with a lot of flaws and are leaving their customers dangling in the wind.I'm going to stick with Computerize Your Assets (CYA), which isn't as slick or full-featured, but seems solid and still pretty good. (I abandoned the Quicken Home Inventory products - the classic version does not support any kind of attachments and the new version is apparently totally buggy, consistent with much of Intuit's recent software). CYA has not been updated in quite some time, but at least it works, and you can easily export data out of it into another program down the road.

HomeManage Home software
Software is through for home inventory package, but for me it involved too much with entries for data. Using EXCEL, I created a spreadsheet that records the information I wanted and was simpler for me to use. I want records I can provide to police and/or insurance if events occur, which include: item description with applicable serial numbers and costs. I've stored this software on the bookcase and maybe one day I'll find a use for it.

I downloaded HomeManage 2014 and found it very easy and intuitive to use
Bought this software last week. Downloaded it and paid $29. I'm using it to inventory the house. We are downsizing and moving and I thought it would easiest to do an inventory now. I downloaded HomeManage 2014 and found it very easy and intuitive to use. As for support, I went to their Facebook page and posted a question there. It was answered the morning afterward but by then I had figured it out myself by using the program.Pros:-The program is extremely versatile. In the folder/location labeled "home" I have items categorized by room (living room, bedroom etc). I made another location called "storage" where I have packed items categorized by moving box. I also have a location called "Christmas Ornaments" that is not categorized yet.-While the form view contains fields for a *lot* of data, you can chose which fields you want visible in the table view and print that for a quick inventory. There might be a better way to do that but I've only had the program a week. This program does a lot but you shouldn't let that deter you from using it if you just want a simple inventory like I do.-It is very easy to move items between rooms and between locations via drop and drag.-You can attach pictures to items (up to 16) and documents such as warranty info and user manuals downloaded from the internet or scanned in.-You can add items via pictures of them. I have a large number of Hallmark ornaments that I entered into the database using pictures I took of the ornaments last year. It will be a while before I can add any particular data about each but for now they are all inventoried.-The program is easy to back-up and restore and back-ups are stored in the cloud for no charge. I especially appreciate this.-They have three video tutorials available on Youtube with the promise of more to come.-It's based on MS Access so you can import data from Access and Excel.-Upgrades to the program, in the year you buy the program, are free.-It's obvious this program is being updated and improved upon unlike another program I wanted which has not been updated since 2011. This was very important to me since I would like upgrades but only want to add all that data once.-Product support was prompt.Cons-You cannot move "rooms" (the folder below "locations") or duplicate them which would be handy when moving. You *can* duplicate and move items.
