Q: Does this help to reduced back pains?

Yes. For me it does anyhow. We need a new mattress, but I didn't feel like paying a grand or so for one. We've got some worn out spots because we're both fat. Like sinkholes. Haha! I can sleep on my side and my back just fine with it. It will buy you time until you have to replace your mattress. I like it a lot. I will also say, that it depends on what exactly your back problems are. It came pretty fast and as advertised. I didn't wash ours and it didn't have a nasty stench to it at all. Was in a hurry to try it out. Good luck!

Q: How thick is the actual topper part? 3 inches? 4 inches?

When it was new and fluffed it was probably 4 inches, but after a couple months it is 3 inches. It is still very soft and comfortable, and has a "plush" feel. We have been very happy with it so far.

Q: Can I use this on top of a sofa mattress bed ?

I’m sure you can. It is quite thick.

Q: I have a washing machine top load with an Impeller, not an agitator, is it still safe to wash?

I would think it would wash better as the mattress pad would not get twisted around the agitator. However, I cannot honestly answer aa I haven't even washed mine since I just received it and put it on my bed last week.
