Is this just another questionable product? Is the price increase justified? Read on...
I wish I could give zero stars. The price has gone up from $60 to $80. I contacted the manufacturer to ask why. They told me that they were "FORCED to increase the price IN ANTICIPATION of the POTENTIAL impact of US/Canada tariffs on SHIPPING COSTS". When I explained that the tariffs had not been implemented yet, and even if they had, they would have no effect on shipping costs, nor would the proposed tariffs even apply on products such as this one, they admitted that they were wrong. They have, however, decided to maintain the $20 price increase on a small two ounce jar. I get the impression that they are relying upon people being uninformed on the subject of tariffs in order to take advantage of them. THAT is the very definition of gouging. I've used the product for a few weeks...so far, NO DIFFERENCE. By the way, once I was able to see the ingredients on the label (saw palmetto, nettle root, sarsaparilla, and wild yam root), I realized that they have no reported effect when used in miniscule amounts - especially when applied to the skin. Saw palmetto requires about 160 mcg/day, and STINGING Nettle ROOT requires about 360 mg/day - the amount contained in 2-3 cups of STINGING nettle ROOT tea. There is no recommended amount for wild yam root and only one study has been conducted on its benefits. That study showed that Diosgenin, the 'active' chemical in wild yam root, while able to convert estrogen and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) in a laboratory setting, cannot aid the human body in converting or increasing levels of either hormone, and that for the 23 women involved in the three month study, none of them saw any benefit to its use. All reports of benefit from other sources seem to be anecdotal. I bought this product with an open mind, not knowing the ingredients used since the ingredients are not listed in the product description (I should have identified that as a red flag...). Only when I received it, and I removed the very sticky inventory control label, was I able to see the ingredients listed on the product label. I was very disappointed, to say the least. The amounts of each ingredient contained within a "small pea sized amount" are limited to almost imperceptible, homeopathic quantities. They are almost undetectable amounts - certainly not enough to produce any realistic physiological effect. The company can provide no data regarding efficacy, nor can they provide any studies to back up their claims because none exist. I would suggest that anyone who claims to have seen some benefit from this product may be experiencing the placebo effect brought about by the strong desire to see some improvement. The only way to determine if this product works is by having your hormone levels tested. Nobody in the comments has mentioned any blood tests, and from every data source and medical publication I have queried, there are no reported measurable benefits to this product or its ingredients when applied topically, and in such small amounts. I would return the item except I have been using it. I simply don't feel morally comfortable returning a product I have used, despite the fact that I feel it is a 'dubiously questionable product'. I have learned my lesson. I won't be purchasing this product again. I hope this helps you decide whether, or not, this product can be helpful for you.
