What is the base metal for these chains? Stainless steel or possibly an alloy?

After contacting the company, I was told the base metal for these gold plated chains is brass. The gold is heavily plating the Brass base. Contains no lead or zinc. Yes, the reviews are amazing. Mine is gorgeous. I Only wear with my expensive gold pendants occasionally. No one knows the difference. I'm sure it will last awhile.
