Rustic Leather Checkbook Cover, Dark Brown

I just received my checkbook cover. From reading other posts I was a little uncertain of the color, but mine is not burgundy at all, it is very much a medium brown with some variations running through it. Very pleased with color. I will agree that my checks and register are a little difficult to insert, but the wallet is leather with no lining, so it is expected, but do-able, but this is the reason I rated it a 4. Maybe after some use it will loosen up. I love the look of the leather "latch" and practicality of it, it's unusual and now maybe I can keep my pen from falling out.

I looked at several check books that would compliment my antique style checks but the reasons were many for not purchasing them. Some weren't the proper size while others just had no style. Or at least that's what I thought....Then I came across this checkbook cover that looked like it came out of the old west. I knew instantly that this was the one for me.It fits my standard size bank checks perfectly. The fit is a little snug but if you run your fingers through the inside pockets a few times and apply leather conditioner to the "finished" parts of the leather it becomes less stiff.This is truly a checkbook cover that exudes rustic check writing style!

It seemed like a good idea. And I've never liked the cheap plastic covers the banks' suppliers provide good customers (like me).So I lightened my wallet a little (too little, as it turned out) and bought this. Indeed, mine looks cool. It evokes memories of thick leather, gun powder and other details of my pipe hitter days.The problem is that the check and register, provided by a standard purveyor of such items, would not fit inside all this leather! I tried to finesse first one side, then the other. No go. Then I rounded up some sharp sissors and tried to trim one insert. I definitely trimmed it, but still NO GO.I'll leave it at that. (One star deserves a proper explanation.) For those happy 4- and 5-star buyers, good for you. Mine will be consigned to the rubbish can unless I can think of some (other!) use for the leather.

The appearance was a bit more rustic than pictured however it is a sturdy leather and it appears to wear well. I would recommend it but wished it came in other colors than brown.

The leather checkbook is really good-looking and quality leather. BUT, whoever stitched it together must have been under the influence, because the inside of the checkbook is stitched in a way that either destroys the checks and register when tried inserted them, or you have to trim the edges so they fit slightly in a trapezoid format, big hassle...The statement: "Machine stitching around the edges completes the Rustic Leather Checkbook Cover." it should be replaced by "Crap stitching around the edges completely destroys the Rustic Checkbook Cover."On a separate note, amazon.com lacks quality control of its products resulting in many substandard products circulating!

If you have normal sized checks, you will have to cut the ends of the backside off slightly to get it to fit. Otherwise, it was good quality leather. If the checks had actually fit, it would have been a 5 star review.

Although the checkbook cover does not accommodate Canadian sized checkbooks and is not as rustic as pictured I have made it work and am happy with the purchase.

This checkbook cover is excellent quality! I had no trouble getting a standard checkbook and receipt book into this cover (as some previous posters did). If you are familiar with leather quality, you know that leather is tight when it is is new and gradually softens with use. Excellent design and quality here, just what I wanted!
