A little workhorse, it's the Little Humidifier That Can
First, I have to compare this to other units to be fair. We tried a number of units in our large bedroom; all the units claimed to be able to get the humidity up to 60 percent in large areas but none were able to raise it more than 10% from the ambient even in our room of 180 square feet. In this industry the square footage claims are completely dishonest, but manufacturers are in the awkward position of having to exaggerate the square footage they can humidify or they will look bad to consumers who are comparing with other units. So first I say "forget the square footage claims of all the units on the market". Look for how much water they will actually put into the air in a day. That being said, this unit is very simple and not particularly robustly designed, but it puts a couple gallons of water into the air and can get our room up to 60% or higher on any day - and we have dry forced air heat. This can only be done using the high setting, which gives a loud fan noise that might bother most people but the sound is basically white noise and not offensive. You don't need to run it on high all night. We turn it on in the late afternoon, on high, and when we go to bed we turn it down to medium, which makes less sound than a window fan and doesn't bother us at all. On low it will maintain humidity on a normal day that is not too dry and you can barely hear it... very quiet. It came with absolutely no instructions, which was annoying, but a simple glance at the pdf on this listing showed how to get it started and where to place the filter, which is all you need to know. The fill situation is awkward and should have been designed better, but we are happy enough with the unit that we just deal with it. You have to be willing to pour the water in more slowly than you might like, but the way we see it is that people should be happy it requires so much water... that means it is doing its job :-) So overall, a simple workhorse of a unit in a relatively small footprint, with a simple appearance that blends in well with most decor, that simple does the job. I would buy another one if I have another room that needed it, rather than take a chance on buying something else.

Works great, can be noisy on highest two settings
Although I'm satisfied with this unit, it is made with the thinnest possible plastic and feels pretty cheap. It has 3 fan settings, the second of which operates at a frequency that makes the unit shake rattle and is, IMO, completely unusable. That's OK because we use it on the highest setting in a larger house with two HVAC units. We have it in an open staircase area so it circulates and supplements an HVAC mister set up in one unit. It has been unusually cold lately and in our setup, at high speed, this unit can only get its immediate area up to 30%. When it was a little warmer, we could hit 40%. Unfortunately, this makes so much noise on the high setting, that my wife turns it down at night, and it cannot keep up. This unit puts out a lot of water, so it's doing its job, and in fact as it runs all day it has to be refilled before the day is over in our setting. While relatively easy to fill, you have to turn the fan down to the lowest setting or completely off because it will blow water back in your face at the high setting. LOL. The fill opening is behind the grate where air blows out, and is shallow enough that using a bucket to fill means water splashes against the filter and the max fill line. I would rather pour water directly into the basin with a larger opening. We have also slipped and dumped water on the floor, so while acceptable, the fill could be a little better IMO. To sum up, in our setting which is asking it to humidify too large an area, it nevertheless puts out a lot of water per day, but requires the highest setting, which we consider very noisy. The lowest setting is whisper quiet but does not put out enough water for our use. Still, it's easy enough to use, and a pretty good value, hence the rating despite some criticisms.

Good humidifier... could be great with just a little change
Wonderful product. Not perfect. Pros: - The reservoir is a good size. - The casters help... they don't move great on carpet, but with the reservoir size, it'd be hard to move it into place without the casters. - It is simple... I've had other humidifiers that were more aesthetically pleasing but which ended up drenching my floors due to over complicated designs. - It puts a good amount of water into the air. Naturally that's going to be based on your space, the airflow, the relative humidity its working against, etc. But for an evaporative humidifier, it does a good job. The cons: - Any setting except for the lowest one is loud. You can talk over the middle setting. The highest setting isn't conducive to conversation. - There are little plastic ridges on the inside of the reservoir that align the wick to form two compartments... There is the large air inflow compartment, then the smaller air outflow compartment. The wick sits in between these two compartments so that the maximum amount of air passes through it... thus increasing the efficiency of the humidifier. But the little plastic ridges that hold the wick in place are unnecessarily small. and as a result, on the highest setting, the air pressure can easily push them out of place. That lets a lot of air escape without passing through the wick. I'm providing some images to show the intended position and the position it can end up in when on the highest setting to demonstrate the air leakage. All in all, I think its a good product. I intend to get a couple bull clips to clip to the top of the wick housing, which should keep it in place.

This is the best humidifier I have ever owned
This is a really great unit. works incredibly well and is easy to fill, you don't have to take the top off, just the grille at the front of the unit. It does a great job of monitoring the humidity and it’s easy to set up the fan speed and desired humidity level. Fan speed 1 is quiet, 2 and 3 quite noisy, but you don't need the higher speeds except perhaps when you first set it up as it reaches the desired humidity from very dry air in only a few hours. Our air was at 19% humidity and reached the 45% we set it up for in 3-4 hours…..that was running it at the #2 fan speed, #3 was too noisy for us to tolerate for long. Since then it has maintained the humidity perfectly on fan speed #1. It doesn’t have a big footprint. I am using filtered tap water in it. This is a great unit and I really recommend it. VERY happy with this purchase.

UPDATE 1/20/2020 - new update 12/2020
Update 12/2020: So a new problem appeared and is signaling that this is about to die. The display started showing CF and F alternating. The water is at a minimal level and when you lift off the top, the fan "should" stop as a safety. I lifted it and it's a good thing I had a good grip otherwise if my hand slipped it's would've been in the fan. Lawsuit waiting to happen. Upon more inspections, it turns out the switch no longer works and likely any other sensor so I'm giving it another month or 2 before it completely craps out. UPDATE 1/20/2020: So that didn't last too long. It was great when it worked and it kinda still is but waiting for the shoe to drop. I stopped it to refill the water and all of a sudden, F2 is making a large humming noise. F1 and F3 speed are still quiet...yet F2 produces a loud hum. How does that happen?! Anyways, I already tossed the box so I'm not happy about lugging this loose thing through a Khol's to return it. How embarassing! Besides that, I have to wait until I feel up to it since I am still sick. Wonderful! Back to searching for a humidifier, while Aircare makes units that cover a large area, I am not willing to spend another $110 nor $350 to risk another return. Original: My house has issues in the winter. The thermostat is downstairs and the heat rises to the vaulted ceilings upstairs. Colder days, the temp can be 10 degrees different than upstairs. Which also means the heat dries out the air big time. I tried stronger smaller units per room and that can't keep up. I worry about getting a whole house installed because of mold issues in the ducts and besides, the HVAC unit is in the attic and I am dredding regular service fees, another expensive filter to change, more attached units to possibly fail, also (this is a biggie!) constantly dragging out the ladder and climbing in and out of that access for regular maintenance. Hell no, if I can avoid it! Before calling HVAC and having a unit installed, I decided to give something like this a last shot. I read in articles that humidifying the air can help also retain the heat instead of that quick dissipating dry heat. So I got a weather station with 3 remotes that had hygrometers. The station was mounted next to the thermostat downstairs and one remote in each room upstairs, the unit was setup by the stairs so humid air can split between upstairs and downstairs in a 2300sq ft home. Here's what I found: Before: (outside avg 22 F, thermostat set to try holding at 68 degrees +/-1) - on the days that the heat struggled to keep up Thermostat temp was at 68-69, humidity was at 20% - Master w/ vaulted ceiling 76F, 9% - Guest - no vault 74F, 12% - Kid's room w/ vaulted 76% 10% Their noses bled frequently, first thing in the morning and sometimes later in the evening AFTER being on 1 full day at Fan 1 and some 30 min shifts F2 when noise is not an issue: (avg outside 24F, humidity 22%) - main room with thermostat 68-69F humidity up to 32% steady - Master BR at 71F and 22% give or take (no help from smaller room humidifier given) - Guest room 70F and 25% (no extra help given) - Kids room 70F and 23% (no help given) I can say, yes it did help. I can say yes, the theory of humidifying the air helps retain the balance out the heat. I am certain because last night I forgot to refill the water and it must've stopped, we were all dry again. It does come with casters that you put on if you want - just don't push it in hard because the tub is somewhat thin. Cleaning is easy to a point. It does have 4 raised points and some structural oddities that would need a q-tip or toothbrush to Lightly scrub out. Thats why I put 3 stars for that. My negatives: - I do agree with other readers, the reservoir is flimsier than I am comfortable with so I only put a few gallons at most. I would freak if 6 gallons spilled all over the hardwood floors so I am mainly concerned with that. This is the only reason why I would return this. - The fan can be loud. You expect some kind of noise level so be reasonable with the expectation. F1 - low is quiet enough. In a silent room, it is no louder than any large room humidifier. F2 and F3 - that's louder for sure. Comparable to one of those large room fans - the large reservoir probably help amplify it a little. Not a deal breaker IMO - just set it to F1 once you're at a maintenance point. I guess I will still look around to see, for now I will try it. If I don't see anything better then I guess I roll the dice with this one. If I see something just as powerful and sturdier, then I'm returning this. Again, the sturdiness of the tub is my biggest concern. Fill it quarter to half and I think it's ok. I'd be worried with a full tank.

Most cost-effective, simple and cheap-to-operate large area humidifier out there
We have been using this now for four years, all winter long. It operates for hours on end in the winter time. It is very simple to use, easy to operate, and can humidify large areas. Our total upstairs area that we use it in is probably around 600-700 sq ft, a kitchen and living room with a fireplace. If you're doing much more than that, I'd suggest getting another one for other rooms. We use a filter all winter long. We run it non-stop for two weeks, then put it in the bathtub, rinse it out and clean it thoroughly. We spritz a little hydrogen peroxide bleach across the filter, let it set for a few min, then rinse that off good and crank it up again. Sometimes if we have a few days in a row where the humidity is up we'll allow the paper filter to dry out...put it in an empty tank, put a folded up piece of paper towel under the water level rod and turn it on. When you're running it on low it is very quiet...however, on very dry days you'll probably have to run it on medium or high to keep the humidity up. Then it's not so quiet, but it's the noise a fan makes. No regrets at all buying it, we'll get another one when this one finally packs it in. A few other notes: 1) buy the recommended filters. Yes, they might be a little more, but they work well and if you're replacing them once a season not a big deal 2) make sure you clean it out at least every two weeks, and do NOT let it just sit with water in it...either drain it or run it. We do not put any chemicals or vinegar in the water, but we just keep it out of the way where it can't get junk in it and clean it on schedule. 3) make sure when you clean it you do use soap and warm water, and something (safe) to clean the filter. Be careful with the filter, as when it's wet you can damage it and have to use another one. 4) I noticed several people commented on shoddy quality. It's all plastic except for the fan motor...but you get it for a bit over $110. We've had no mechanical or electrical problems with it, and its done the job we wanted it for and done it well.

Works effectively but very noisy on middle fan speed
The first floor of my house is about 700 sq ft. Three of the rooms are open for good air flow. Two rooms are separated from the rest by door openings, restricting the air flow. Here are my results with the AirCare 6-gallon Space Saver humidifier in this environment, placing it at one end of the larger open space. THE GOOD. I recommend this humidifier (with reservations) for these two primary reasons: (1) It works. The humidity in my house is 16% in the winter. This humidifier can raise the humidity in the room where it's placed to 55% if I run it about 8 hours a day. I choose to not run it longer than that. (2) Energy consumption. This evaporative humidifier uses a lot less electricity than the Vicks warm mist humidifier I had previously, which was only effective in one small room with the door closed. (3) Customer service is good---quick and responsive. THE BAD (1) Noise. There are three fan speeds. F1, F2, and F3. F1 is very quiet, but won't put out a lot of moisture. F3 is fairly loud but it doesn't make that weird noise; it's just the sound of loud rushing air, which is OK if I'm in another room. I wouldn't want to be sitting in the room with the fan on F3. F2 is the problem: it makes a loud, uneven BUP BUP BUP BUP sound that I personally find intolerable even when I'm in another room. The frequency of the F2 sound is precisely calibrated to drill a hole in my brain. There are ways the manufacturer could overcome this, and it's disappointing they haven't done so given the number of complaints about this in the reviews. I contacted the company about the fan noise. They responded immediately and offered me a replacement fan, no questions asked. This tells me that they get this complaint frequently. The new fan they sent me had the identical problem even though the company told me they test all replacement fans before they send them out. This indicates that the noise problem is in the design and materials of the unit. Can the noise problem be overcome? To a certain extent, yes. When I first got the humidifier I ran it on F3 for two or three days until the walls and furniture absorbed enough mositure than the humidity level could be maintained more easily. Now I run it on F3 for the first hour in the morning and then I reduce it to F1 for the rest of the day. In other words, I never use F2. That's a big drawback because F2 is arguably the most desirable speed, balancing reasonable moisture output with tolerable noise level---IF all you were hearing would be the sound of rushing air, but it's not. There is very little difference in power consumption between F2 and F3, so if you could run it on F2 you should be able to get quite a bit more moisture output for quite a bit less noise, but the latter is not the case. I asked Rufus, "Why does the fan make so much noise on second speed?" Rufus answered: "The loud noise on speed 2 (medium setting) of the AIRCARE Space Saver Humidifier is a common issue. Multiple customers report this exact problem - speeds 1 and 3 run normally, but speed 2 produces a distinct loud humming or buzzing noise. Common causes include: Motor speed resonance - Speed 2 operates at a frequency that causes vibration in the housing. Fan alignment issues - The fan unit can become slightly misaligned, causing buzzing. Normal design characteristic - Some customers report this is typical behavior for this speed setting. Quick fixes customers have found: Gently tap around the housing sides to realign the fan unit. Place something with slight weight on top to reduce rattles. Use speeds 1 or 3 instead, which are quieter." (2) Coverage. I said that the humid rises to 55% in the room where the unit is placed. In the other rooms it gets to about 28%. Of course, you will have better results if you run it on high all day. My results simply show that the results are better close to the unit. For me, 28% is acceptable compared to 16%. (3) Difficulty filling. The design of the fill opening is poor. It's about 4 inches back to front and the same width as the front of the unit. I'd like to fill it with a 2.5-gallon bucket to reduce trips back and forth to the kitchen, but there is a significant risk of spilling water with a bucket that size and such a narrow opening. So I use a much smaller juice pitcher, which requires many trips from the kitchen each day. I don't want to move the unit on its casters over the wood floor to the kitchen, and once it's full, 6 gallons of water weighs 50 lbs---not easy to move a long distance back to the living room, with increased risk of damaging wood floors. (4) Cost of wicks. Natural Breeze makes a washable, reusable wick, but that's expensive too. There are instructions online for making your own wicks using reusable material available online and cutting it to size. (5) Difficulty and cost of maintenance (avoiding mold). Again, there are DIY medthods and subtances (e.g., vinegar) for cleaning the unit to avoid the expensive antibacterial additives. MY TAKE ON THIS UNIT. Buy this humidifier if you want something that's going to add several gallons of water to your house each day and you don't care about the noise, ease of filling, cost of wicks and antibacterials, or weekly cleaning. It does what it's supposed to do---just not conveniently. I considered returning it but I was desperate to relieve the dry air in my house so I kept it. If they fixed the F2 fan speed noise problem I would give this 4 stars, because problems like cleaning are common to all humidifiers. Redesigning the fill space would raise it to 5 stars.

House is much more comfortable now
We live in Southern Utah where the outside summer humidity is less than 10%. We've been using small warm humidifiers (we used to use them when we had a cold) and they heat up the house. Southern Utah is now in the 90's and 100's so extra heat is not our friend. This Aircare humidifier has been working very well and has brought the humidity up into the high 30's. We roll it over to the sink and use the sink sprayer to fill the reservoir and then roll it back. Too heavy to lift after it is full of water so I'm glad the sink sprayer works well. Low speed works fine which is great since medium and high are too loud. Recommended!

Easy fill and works well
The humidity in my condo (~1100 sq-ft) goes down to about 12% in the winter, so I need a whole-home humidifier. I used the Aircare D46 last year and it was just OK. Not powerful enough for my whole house, but it got things up in the 30% range which at least wasn't awful. Filling up the containers was annoying though, so I decided to get a larger and more powerful unit that I could fill easily. I ended up settling on this one. I've used it for about 2 weeks, so I now have a good idea of how well it works. First off, filling this thing is so much easier than my last unit. I just take a pitcher filled with tap water, and dump it in. It's that easy and makes me wish I had bought a "top-fill" unit ages ago. As for the speed settings, low (1) is pretty quiet and seems to be able to keep my humidity level at around 37% which is good for my place. I fill the water daily, but I believe it would last about 2 days before going empty on this setting. The 2nd setting is a little useless as it's quite loud, so you may as well use the the setting (3) which is a little louder, but barely and works better. I personally set the humidity to 45%, and it's able to keep up as long as I keep it filled with water. I'd say the full tank lasts about 24hrs on this setting. It does turn off once it hits 45%, but it doesn't turn off very often, so I think 45% is somewhat maxing out it's capabilities for my home. If I set it to 50% it would likely always stay on, and maybe go up to 47%-ish. Anyways, I have it on (3) when I'm not in the same room, and (1) when I am. My humidity level is always between a healthy 35-45% as a result, which I am happy with. Overall my only complain is that it's white and doesn't fit my decor at all. I can live with that as long as it keep working though.

Bon appareil.

Does the whole House.
Works as advertised. Raised the humidity 10% in two days in my old 1800 sq ft home. Its all plastic so a bit flimsy for the money. It could use a handle for moving it across rugs as it is hard to maneuver between rooms. ( fill it in kitchen ,run it in living room). Has a unnecessary overfill hole that slops water when you fill it to the full mark and try to move it.The fan on 1 or 2 is not to noisy but 3 is to loud to be in the same room for long. The 6 gallon fill is great as with the fan on high I still get a day between fills. Over all if you have rugs it can be a little awkward to move but I would buy it again. Setup is a breeze and I am quite happy with the overall operation of the unit. I'D say a good bang for your buck.
