Does using the brace make your stomach muscles weaker?

Kim, I am not a doctor, but have had lower back pain off and on for years. I am very active and excise every day with both walking and exercise bike. Also do strength training. I use the back brace only when I have a flare up of pain. Suspect that frequent use of the back brace would tend to weaken you stomach muscles because the brace lessens the sole dependence on these muscles. Just my opinion and hope it helps you.

is this good for lifting? i'm a woman and am short. i have a job that requires me to lift heavy objects all day.

I use this belt to give me protective support when doing lifting. I have a bad back and it does help with preventing doing damage to my spine. My doctor says that this belt is great for protecting my back but to not depend on it to give me power to lift items heaver than I am supposed to lift. So, this belt will give you protective support but should not be used to give extra strength.

One reviewer states you cannot bend over. Another states they use it on the job lifting etc. Who is correct?

The one that complains about not bending over is the one that has the worst back. Use your knees, not you back.

Can this product be used instead of a lumbar cushion for sitting in a chair for extended periods of time doing office work or driving?

No, I wouldn't recommend it. It gets too tight when you sit very long. It works better when you are up moving around doing something.
