I’m not going to pretend that I can perceive any difference between cables with more or less copper or oxygen content and other such touted features.. What I look for in a cable is quality construction that ensures reliability.As an aside, it’s important to understand that, though they may look alike, a SPEAKER cable (such as this item) and an instrument/guitar cable are two different things. You will often see these terms used interchangeably - it’s EXTREMELY important that you confirm what you are getting and use the right cable for the job.Using a speaker cable as an instrument cable isn’t the worst thing in the world…it’s just not a good idea. Speaker cable is unshielded while instrument cables are shielded. Using an unshielded (speaker) cable to plug in your guitar will allow all sorts of extra interference into your signal, resulting in all measure of hum, buzzing, “crosstalk,” etc.Using an instrument cable as a speaker cable however (e.g., to plug your amp head to a speaker cabinet), can cause catastrophic to your amp. This is the result of the high amount of current flowing from your amp (vs the very low current that your guitar produces). Pushing that much current through the much smaller gauge wires used in instrument cables could cause anything from a melted cable to a short in your amp.With that public service announcement out of the way, I got this SPEAKER cable to connect one of my amplifier heads to a speaker cab. It was just the right length and sounds as it should. I unscrewed the jack on each end and was pleased to see not only nicely soldered leads, but each connection was encased in a nice, semi translucent material that was tough enough to make sure those connections aren’t going ANYWHERE, but also had a bit of “give” ensuring strain relief.I definitely recommend this cable and if my long-winded review saves even one person from destroying their amp, it was worth it.

$30 is a lot for a 3-foot speaker cable, but Monster does have a reputation for making some of the highest quality guitar and speaker cables out there. There’s not much in a 3’ cable that will affect the sound, but there are a lot of mechanical features that can affect reliability, and Monster gets them right. The plug is impressive looking, with its polished barrel, but the real detail in inside. Rather than the typical plastic sleeve that comes with most 1/4” plugs or the heat-shrink tubing seen on many fabricated cables, Monster has encapsulated the cable termination in what looks like, clear epoxy. While that means you won’t be able to reuse the plug if the cable is damaged, or resolder it if the termination fails, it also makes it extremely unlikely that this plug will fail or short out, even if someone yanks it out by the cable. Yes, it’s expensive, but it’s probably about as reliable a speaker cable as you’ll find.

If there's one super recognizable name in the audio cable world, it's "Monster." Synonymous with quality, Monster has been making quality cables for many years.Needing a short speaker cable, I knew I could have spent less money. But, a failed speaker cable can ruin a guitar amp, and is just not worth taking any chances with a $3,000+ boutique tube amp. The quality of the wire itself, the non-plated connectors, and the quality of the soldering workmanship make this an excellent choice.I'm very satisified that this is one cable I'll never have to buy again.
