nail polish, limited edition valentine's day collection, coral nail color with a shimmer finish

I was intrigued by "Tug at the Harpstrings" when I saw it in Essie's Valentine's Day 2021 Collection. It looked like a deep red without the cool blue/purple undertone. Essie describes it as a "muted, earthy red with yellow undertones." Some swatchers said it is a one-coater so I bought it as I'm always in search of a true red cream. When I received the polish, I was concerned because the color looks a little washed-out in the bottle. It is a polish that dries darker than it looks in the bottle, though, so it was closer to what I was expecting when dry. I do think that Essie's photos and those of Instagram swatchers depict the polish as being darker than it actually is. I would describe this color as a mid-tone red with slight brown and slight yellow undertones. "Earthy" is a good word for it. It is about as dark as a Christmas red but with entirely different undertones, making it less bright, which is probably what Essie meant when they described the color as "muted".I can confirm that it is a one-coater! This is the first one-coat red polish that I've encountered and the only true cream red. Reds are so difficult to buy because they are either jellies or crellies but are never labeled as such, so you never know what you're getting. I had given up on finding a true red cream. But this polish is fantastic, goes on smooth, self-levels well, is opaque in one coat. I always do two coats, but a polish this opaque will be great for nail art. And I love the shade. "Tug at the Harpstrings" is the perfect red if you don't like cool-toned reds but don't want an orange-red either. Essie has so many reds in its core line and none this good. It's unfortunate that this is a limited edition polish from a relatively obscure collection that sold out quickly.

Lovely pricing and color. Essie is a reliable brand that I use in multiple states and climates ( NY, Ga, Tx).

I apply this polish along with Essie clear top and bottom coat . The polish does not chip up to 2 weeks. I think the time I save is well worth the price for the polish. Also, going to a nail salon to have your nails done is not as convenient as being home on your schedule!

This Polish is a little shimmery, slightly pearly. It seems to be longer lasting than most Essie polishes. This is a beautiful shade that should be permanent.

This is a very pretty color, and I don't hate it, but it isn't that bright "spring" pink that the image gives off. Instead, it's more of a deep pink (mauve?), with a metallic tone. Again, it's not a bad color, just sort of unexpected based on the photo given.

I like that this was factory sealed, brand new, not thick! Ty!
