Stunning and Informative!
Herbal Goddess” by master herbalist Amy Jirsa is an absolutely beautiful book, chock full of wonderful information. “Herbal Goddess” limits its scope to 12 of the author’s favorite herbs, which is unusual for an herbal resource, but also what makes this book special. The author brings the reader into a relationship with each of the 12 herbs, exploring elements of medicinal healing, culinary uses, meditative and and magical correspondences, how to use the herbs in beauty treatments, and even draws the reader into a yoga session for each herb, inspired by herb’s the elemental and chakra aspects. The photography in this book is incredible–so earthy and gentle and vividly colored. Just lovely. And the tone the author uses is personable, friendly and fun, yet credible. It is obvious that Jirsa knows her stuff, but she never comes off as preachy. My favorite aspect of the book (besides the lovely photography) is the fact that Jirsa limited the book to only 12 herbs. At first, I thought it would prove to be a boring read, due to that limitation, but while drinking in this book, I realized she had hit on something truly wonderful. By keeping the book’s scope to only ten herbs, Jirsa was able to show the reader these herbs from every direction, allowing the reader to truly understand the power and beauty of each herb, and how that herb can be brought into the practice of everyday health and healing, at every level. This is a phenomenal book for anyone who loves gardening, herbs, natural health, yoga, simple living, or who just has sweet dreams of the outdoors. A wonderful, wonderful book, which I plan on purchasing in physical form (currently I only have the electronic copy, but the photos are so lovely, I want a physical copy). Since it is such a valuable book to refer back to, I definitely recommend it for the herbal library. Also, I'd highly recommend it for gift-giving as well, particularly for any woman who loves herbs, yoga, and the beautiful and mysterious nature of Mother Earth. Please note that I received a complimentary pre-release ebook copy of this book from the publisher Storey Publishing, LLC, via the NetGalley reviewer platform. I was not required to write any review at all in exchange for this ebook, and my opinions are entirely of my own making.

There's a lot of soul in this book, and that's what draws me to it! The layout is absolutely beautiful and makes reading or browsing this book very enjoyable--good design is more important than people realize. Anyway, the content is also excellent. Amy's voice in this book is very warm and familiar, like a new friend you really want to get to know better. I like the combination of medicine + food + yoga + magic for each herb; I feel like you get a well-rounded idea of each and can see how all these aspects interact with one another, for a bigger picture of the plant as a whole (which is always good when we're working in a holistic paradigm). Also, they are all very accessible herbs if you live in North America, not a lot of more exotic stuff that's in high danger of being over harvested/threatened/endangered like white sage or palo santo. You can find a good number of these herbs (ginger, cinnamon, tumeric) right in your kitchen! Very accessible, includes vegan recipes for almost everything.

Discover this Amazing Book!
Herbal Goddess is an amazing book that covers more than you can imagine between its covers. Every page is packed with information that you can use. The author gives nuggets of wisdom that can be easily absorbed into your daily life -- information for the mind, spiritual renewal, stress relief, insomnia, joint and bone health, inflammation, depression, coughs and colds, meditation, attracting love and so much more. I loved reading about blending and creating delicious teas, lotions, shampoos and lip balms. Tips on body care, anti-aging masks and ways to boost memory and mental longevity are fascinating and can be incorporated into a daily routine with ease. The recipes are extremely practical and packed with nutritional benefits. I love the turmeric hot chocolate, the lemon-pepper-and calendula spice mix, the oven-fried tofu and the incredible mustard! The yoga positions blend beautifully with each chapter and are an added bonus. The photography is absolutely outstanding! This is a must-read, must-own book! It will become your guide and companion!

This is a great beginner book
I am just beginning my journey on understanding, using, and growing my own herbs. This is a great beginner book. I loved the Yoga positions for each herb. The pictures and information are geared for easy learning and fun learning. The whole book feels welcoming and happy. I love using it and learning from it.Now, I am a Christian, and it does have some references to "magical" - if you will - uses of herbs. This did not offend me or cause me any harm. Therefore, if you are also a Christian and want to learn some basic knowledge of herbs, this is STILL a good book. One simply ignores those parts. Good information should not be rejected simply on the basis of disagreeing with another person's religious or philosophic views. Although, one should read with caution.

One of the most beautiful entry level herbal books
This is a wonderful, beautifully photographed manual. It's written at a beginner's level, but I believe any herbalist will fall in love with the beauty of this book. Every page has so much information with recipes for the medicine, herbs for the spirit and yoga too. It's like an activity book almost. So much fun.I hope Amy writes another book just like this examining another 20 herbs in depth. As a note I have both the kindle and trade size book. Both have the same info but the kindle version has hardly any photos. You miss out on the experience if you get the kindle version. BUY A HARD COPY INSTEAD. You will love this book if you're interested in herbalism!

It's okay
I always think I need herb books and cookbooks, but then I just end up looking things up on line and the books get pushed aside.

Fun, approachable and a wealth of knowledge
Fantastic book, perfect for beginners and also people who have a basic knowledge about herbal healing already. The book is absolutely beautiful!! Every page has photos and is simply a joy to read.Written in a really friendly way, I have been learning about herbs for a couple of years but would consider myself a dabler not an expert, this book is so approachable and fun. There is a real wealth of knowledge but broken down in a easy to understand way. (I find a lot of other herbal Books that Iv read to be very matter of fact and not very.. well interesting)This book is broken down into wonderful sections. 12 herbs which I plan to delve into one a month (I read the whole book first but shall go back and read a chapter a month and really immerse myself in that herb)In each herb section you then get an overview, for the body, for the mind, for the spirit, teas, body care (recipes), food, yoga and herbal magic. This book is packed!Love love love! Can't recommend enough to a beginner or someone who wants to approach this deep subject from an angle other than reference book. You could read this book in any order, dib in and out or read it from start to finish.

I enjoyed reading this beautiful book
I enjoyed reading this beautiful book. I keep it on hand to refer to over and over. I appreciate the authors' unique approach at presenting each herb and its uses in recipes, cosmetic applications and herbal remedies combined with a yoga pose for each. I learned many useful facts about these herbs and the author is so kind and friendly when interacting with readers on social media. This book is a constant companion to me and on my gift list for family members.
