Haven't seen any proof that it came from the Japanese but the craftmanship on the woodworks seems like it has an influence on how it was made.

Yes, it is made of wood, the internal space is 8.9*6*1.8cm, dollar bills can be put in, and the internalspace is simply polished without varnish covered as external, but is still smooth.

Can you fit a ring box inside?

I bought this a long time ago, but as I recall a ring would easily fit in the box. I believe the dimensions were in the description.
