About the Startup Describe your product in 3 words. soft safe sleep How did you come up with the idea for this product? I was working in France as a product designer when my children were born. As a new mother there I discovered the popular baby sleeping sack, called a ‘gigoteuse’. As many things in France, they are traditional--nearly every baby has one from birth. My own children slept in theirs from the day they were born until they were hopping around in them! They quickly associated it with a calm nap/night-time ritual so just snapping them into the cocoon of it settled them down. Combining my experience as a mother with my design training, I went on to make these for the French market. I am thrilled to introduce the same attention to detail, functionality, and quality here in the States with La Petite Chose. What makes your product special? The difference is in the design and the materials. As a creative director I met with artisans and manufacturers around the world figuring out how to make things. It became really important to me to be able to create products that are made to last—both by satisfying the user and by using good, natural materials. I believe in the philosophy of ‘buy once buy right’, essentially, buy a good thing and keep it longer. To that end I made these sleeping sacks adjustable so parents could use just 2 sizes instead of 4 or 5 before graduating their child to a blanket. What has been the best part of your startup experience? The babies! I am getting to meet parents and babies at such a wonderful moment of their lives. I love seeing babies in their sleeping sacks and hearing stories from parents about cozy bedtimes and easy nights. I’ve also really enjoyed peoples’ reactions at baby showers. Product design isn’t meant to stay in the abstract—it’s when something you make becomes a staple in someone’s life that it’s really gratifying.

Simple, high-quality, charming, and functional
We love this so much we own it in both sizes!!! A few highlights:(1) Aesthetics:As you can see from the photos this thing is really sweet and very charming. We actually don't hide ours away but rather hang it on a hook in the nursery so that it's part of the décor when it's not in use, and always readily available for naps and bedtime. The Japanese-inspired print (paradoxically, but truthfully!) reminds me so much of France! In our house our Petite Chose sleep sacks are items we will be happy to pass down to the next baby (thus justifying the price)!(2) Quality of materials and construction:This thing is so plush and comfortable, but not at all heavy. Everyone who sees it invariably says "I wish they made that in my size." It dries really quickly in the dryer (important for when baby spits up on this at nap-time and needs it again in just a couple of hours for bedtime--this thing goes on and off four times a day at our house!). The weight is great for year-round. Even in the heat of a Texas summer our baby wore this sack--as long as you have the air set to the pediatrician-recommended 70 degrees year round, this sack is the perfect weight. It also holds up beautifully to repeated washings and hasn't faded noticeably (unlike other luxury baby items that fade terribly--Aiden and Anais, I'm looking at you! baby stuff gets washed like crazy!)(3) Sleep associationsThis sack alone doesn't have any bells and whistles to induce sleep in your baby (always greet those with a skeptical eye, anyways!), but a consistent routine certainly does, and being comfy at bedtime and nap-time helps. Naps are always tricky with babies but keeping the environment similar between bedtime and nap-time has worked well for us, and using our Petite Chose establishes consistency for the babe.(4) Sizing: the age range for the sizes, just like anything for babes, is all relative. We used the small (0-12 months) until our baby was about 4 months old (at which point he weighed a little over 20 lbs and was 27"), and are currently happy in the medium/large (9-24 months) unsnapped at 6 months (over 23 lbs, 29.25") but don't estimate this size will last too far beyond the first year, if that. We are keeping our fingers crossed that they manufacture the next size in time--we will be the first in line!(5) Customer service: I wrote to the owner to ask a question and she actually wrote back, multiple times! Doesn't it feel good to support a real person's small business? And to know that the proprietor stands behind her product?

This baby sleeper is a great product!
This baby sleeper is a great product!!!!! I bought it for my granddaughter and we loved it so much that I bought another one (in beige). The quality is excellent even after many washes, it is soft and comfortable, it looks very pretty and the best part is that the zipper is not in the middle as all the other brands are but the zipper is all around the bottom and up on the side so it is very easy to change the baby at night. I also like the snaps on the shoulders, it makes it again easier to place the baby in. It is a bit pricey compared to the other brands BUT IT IS WELL WORTH IT! The sleeper comes beautifully packaged (nice touch!). My granddaughter started using it at about 2 1/2 months after my daughter stopped swaddling her and the baby started sleeping well. She is 5 months now and I anticipate that she will be using is for a few more months. I highly recommend this product!

Like it so much, we got six(!) of them.
We own three of these in the smaller size for our twins, since they wear them overnight and for both naps and we need to be able to wash them! They sleep so well in them and look so cute. I love how the bottom unzips when we need to do a middle-of-the-night change. I am ordering three in the larger size now but am slightly worried that during some of the hottest summer nights, we'll need an alternative that's lighter weight, and since they are now so used to sleeping in these, I hope it doesn't impact their ability to sleep. Wish this lovely company would make a hot summer option and we'd get that too! Also - the cute little bags they come in are our go-to snack and toy bags when we are out and about on the weekends.

Not very long
Good and warm - warmer than other tog 2.5 sleeping bags (like woolino, merino kids, slumbersafe bag)! But not long enough. My kid was 14 month when I got it, I think he was at 32 inches or slightly taller. This bag fits him well but doesn't have much room to grow. It has like two inches at the bottom so it was roomy at the time but won't last long. So I returned it. Really wish they make it bigger or make another size up.

Love this!
This is truly a French designed product - high quality, cozy, just lovely. We shop fairly exclusively with Le Petit Bateau and Jacadi. We have sleep sacks from both brands (purchased in Europe), and could not find anything like it in the US. Our 9 month old had outgrown both, and I stumbled across this on Amazon looking for a replacement. It arrived and I was in love. Our baby adores it also.The 9-24 month size is a little big for the 9month old (she is 18lbs), so we also ordered the smaller size for her.So far, it has help up well through washing and the quality seems fantastic. Bravo and thanks for bringing a bit of European coziness to US babies!

Zipper under Arm
It is really sad, because its a really beautiful sleep sack. But my baby likes to sleep on his side and the zipper is on the one side. I just can't see how that will be comfortable. Even with the material that they put over the zipper there its still going to be a hard lump.

So soft and cozy! We love!!
This is such a beautiful sleep sack! I purchased this for my little guy because I love the design and the other reviews were so great. This product definilty exceeded my expectations . The material is incredibly soft and very cozy. The little guy sleeps like a dream in it. He's only five weeks old right now and it's definitely big on him but I'm looking forward to when he gets a little bit bigger and it fits better.

Best sleeping sack
Absolutely love this! It is a night-saver, keeping my baby warm and giving us a piece of mind, knowing he is safe, warm and super cozy! Amazing material, feels super soft and handmade from organic cotton. I want to recommend this sack to all of my friends and family, and wish I would have known about it sooner. Don’t even think about it, just buy! It is a must for everyone who has a baby.
