Distilled water is de-ionized and more pure thus will produce the best growing results and form larger chunks. When fully hydrated (depending on water, could be as soon as 15 to 30 minutes or as long as 24 hours), these polymer gel pieces feel cool and look like ice. Directions for use: As gel crystals dry, add more water. To make colored crystals, food dye is added to water before soaking. To clean discolored or cloudy hydrated crystals, rinse in warm or hot water in strainer or colander. Discarded crystals should be thrown in a garbage container. If crystals accidentally enter drain, add table salt and flush with hot water to dissolve. If allowed to completely dry out, the hydrated crystals will revert back to the original, dry crystal state which can then be re-hydrated if desired.
