Very happy with this item!
I wanted to convert several VHS tapes of home movies to digital and spent ages researching the best video capture. I kept coming up with Elgato but that was fairly pricey. Resale items all seemed to be outdated and not compatible with Windows 8. I found this one and took a chance based on Amazon.com reviews as it was a very good price. Received in good time and tried it out this weekend. I had picked up a used VCR online and it was pretty simple with some A/V cables to connect the two. Installation was basic and there is an online manual included which was very useful. Hooked it up and was converting it within mins. Note that you have to let the video play through as it records in real time. I just let it run and then edited afterwards. Great product!

Great product and performs as expected !!!
If you are looking for a great economical solution for converting those old VHS tapes, then this is the way to go. I spent the last two weeks looking at a number of solutions for my project and it came down to the Elgato Video Capture, Diamond VC500 and this product by TOTMC. I read all the reviews and decided to take a chance based on the price. I was not disappointed. With Amazon Prime it was quickly sent to my door and the install was pretty straight forward. I installed the drivers and the somewhat outdated ArcSoft ShowBiz software first, then after making my connections from the VCR to the corresponding cables plugged in the USB connection to my computer. My computer is a home built system running Windows 8.1 64bit, 8GB ram and 1TB hardrive. I think some of the negative reviews related to voice\video sync may be related to a few variables such as (NTFS or FAT32), (32bit vs 64bit) and (HDD vs SSD). I also make it a point to have nothing else running when capturing. The capture software ArcSoft ShowBiz is old, but it does work within Win8 and once I captured my video as an Mpeg2 file, I used Windows Movie Maker to make any edits before burning to a DVD. My file sizes averaged 2.1GB for about 1hr of video and about 4.3GB for 2hr of video. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and happy I took a chance on this product.

Worked great for digitizing VHS data under Windows 8.1
Device and software worked beautifully on Windows 8.1. My task was to convert old VHS tapes to digital format. The only problems were the following: (1) on two of my tapes, the quality was very low (visual static, etc.) and the device dropped frames and went black at times on these two tapes. I did a work around on this by playing tapes on TV and recording the TV picture as new video. (2) the movie making software cannot handle .MOV (Apple Quicktime) video and so it has to be converted to another format, but this can be done using the free Windows Movie Maker software. (3) the digital format used (.mpg or MPEG 2, I believe) is not readily played back on the computer with my existing video players, but it can be played back using the software that came with this device. The device installed easily (first time, no mucking around with drivers) under Windows 8.1, and the software for movie making worked beautifully. The software is intuitive and produced high quality DVD's.I recommend this for those who want to convert their VHS library (you have to have a VHS player, of course) to digital format under Windows 8.1.
