what is the difference between the family friendly and the explicit version?

The Shady Pets NSFW (Not Safe For Work) version offers the same great game play as the family friendly version, but contains card art with adult humor and references not suitable for kids. Overall, the explicit version is more PG-13+ish as it refrains from swearing or any truly explicit imagery but does contain adult themed innuendos that should relate well to those 17+.

Does this include the octopus and is thi family friendly

The Shady Pets (Family Friendly) game does not include the Throw Octopus. To get the Throw Octopus you would need to order that separately. It's available on Amazon. The Shady Pets (Family Friendly) version is family friendly. There is one action card called "Wild Ass" that shows an illustration of a donkey and several pets riding the donkey. Other than that, there's nothing else that you might have concern with. As an alternative, you can visit the shadypets.com website and download a print and play alternative for "Wild Card" that you can print and tape over the "Wild Ass" cards. Or simply remove the Wild Ass cards from the deck and play without them. It doesn't impact the game play that much.

When do you get to throw the octopus?

When you play the Facial Card, you can throw the Octopus plushie at the person you played the card on. As a hint, the Facial Card has a picture of an Octopus being thrown on a person's head.
