Is it necessary to fill it full to get smoke,if I need it only for 1 hour or so? I don't want to waist pellets.

Will the pellets ignite and create a flame if the top is intentially left off of the tube? Would like to use it inside a Rocket Stove for cooking.

To my surprise Mine didn't have a lid so 9ne end is open. In a rocket stove it may stay on fire. I've used mine 5 times. It's good on gas grill for adding some smoke but it's hard to get it to smoke the same 2 times. On Weber smokey mountain smoker 2 times I placed it on the lower rack above the water pan it went out shortly. I'm thinking the steam or the oxygen is burned by charcoal down below.
