Practice Exam for the Civil PE Exam: BREADTH + GEOTECHNICAL DEPTH: Volume 2 (Sample Exams for the Civil PE Exam - 2015)

Well worth the purchase. It was a great exam supplement to practice 8 hours of testing and very relevant to the Geotech portion that I took. A little bit harder than the test but really representative.I also used Goswami's All-in-One reference instead of the CERM that everyone on the West Coast seem to use. Even more worth it. And I did pass in April.

I do not agree with the previous reviewer's comment. I have been working in geotechnical engineering for over 15 years in California. The practice exam book is pretty good, lot of new information consistent with the pe exams. Dr. Goshami has written lot of PE referenced books, and I have most them. He has done great jobs so far.

I was really looking forward to practicing more problems for the exam with this book. I have to admit, I'm pretty disappointed to see so many mistakes, typos and errors in the solutions. The units are wrong in some of these problems. If you know what you are doing, it's an ok book to use to gain more exposure to the new format, but if you want to rely solely on checking your answers with those provided, you will be discouraged. I think the author needs to go through this book with a fine tooth comb to fix all these mistakes before putting something like this out.

I purchased this book in preparation for the Civil: Geotechnical PE Exam in October, 2019. Based on the actual exam that I took, I would break the problems into three categories: Easy, Average, and Hard. This practice exam was representative of the Average to Hard questions from the actual exam that I took. Additionally, the questions in this practice exam were typically much more time-consuming than the problems that I encountered in the actual exam. There were certainly some of the questions on the actual exam that were as time-consuming as the ones on this practice exam, but most of the questions from the actual exam just took a shorter time to solve. Don't worry if you can't solve 40 problems from this practice exam in 4 hours, because most of the questions are more time-consuming than what you'll probably see on the exam.As mentioned in other reviews, there are also a handful of errors in the solutions, but they didn't affect my studying for the exam significantly. I wouldn't let the errors dissuade you from getting this practice exam, as it's a good source of fairly challenging practice problems.

I don't normally review products on Amazon, but this book is so terrible I felt compelled to warn other people studying for the PE not to waste their money on it. It is riddled with typos and errors. The errors are generally very sloppy, such as inconsistent loads used in the problem statement and in the solution, unit errors, etc. The amount of errors makes checking your own work against the solutions very difficult, because you often need to check the solution first to verify that it's correct. I strongly recommend anyone considering this book to move on. If you purchase it, you will find yourself wasting a lot of time you could have otherwise spent studying checking the author's work.
