These jars are cheaply produced overseas, so I doubt they are environmentally conscious.I bought these jars both through Amazon and through another retailer (20+ jars), and they are all identical:The lid on these is NOT WOOD GRAIN, it is printed plastic. They are extremely thin lids, not leak proof, not durable.Would easily break if they fell on hard ground. BUYER BEWARE.

Beautiful Jars
These are well made and sturdy as well as beautiful. They are a little bigger than I expected but they worked great for travel. I like them so much I am going to buy a smaller size too.
