Caviar on a tuna budget. My high priced German watch lust fulfilled by a Chinese clone
I purchase the Rodina R005 from GT&FQ Watch / Fullfied by Amazon because GT&FQ claimed their Rodina being superior and Amazon easy return if GT&FQ failed to meet my expectations.MOVEMENT AAA Grade: I don’t know if the blue screws make it “AAA”. It’s very loud, yet keeps good enough time(I’m getting about 15 sec/day gain out of the box). Btw when I say very loud, it’s as loud as my HMT. I can hear it ticking on my wrist in a very quiet room. The rotor is audible when I move my wrist and listen. The noise is not something I notice, when I’m not listen for it. Hand winding the movement is a nice feature at the price-point, but the sound is frightening to the point that I would just prefer to rely on the rotor to keep it wound.CASE STEEL 316L SS. Again, I don’t know to easily verify this claim. However, the quality of the finishes of the watch case are nearly perfect. As long as it’s SS I don’t care what grade it is.DIAL Sliver[sic] White. I think they meant Silver, but if that is the intention of this claim, I beg to differ. Be that as it may, it doesn’t look like the dial was printed on white paper. It’s definitely on the white spectrum with maybe a tiny metallic like reflection in direct sunlight at an acute angle. It’s not cheap looking and I enjoy it.CRYSTAL Sapphire. Maybe, it pass the internet water drop test, but I’m no expert. Time will tell how well it holds up.SMALL SECONDS DIAL: Fine Concentric Circle. Yes sir! This excessed my expectation, and the watch was getting returned if I didn’t agree. This claim is why I went with this seller. I don’t know what the “others/fakes” looks like, but some photographs on the internet have led me to believe that there are Rodina’s out there will inferior dials – particular with the concentric circle on the small seconds sub dial. I love the small seconds and the concentric circles. I would like to see a Nomos side by side with my watch. I wonder if the Nomos is significantly better in this one regard.CROWN “R” Logo: Yes, but it looks a bit weak like the die was a bit old. Also the “R” is in Times New Roman, which does not match the dials font. They tried and failed at being fancy with a signed crown. At least it doesn’t really take away from the rest of the watch. The blue coating on the crown was fortunately is quickly removable by a finger nail. The crown is very firm and a bit difficult to pull out. Not a solid no play in the stem feeling, but move of a force fit due to poor manufacturing and tolerances.CASE BACK Rodina Logo. Mine reads “RODINA 5ATM WATER RESISTENT AUTOMATIC R005 STAINLESS STEEL” The font for everything is the same, maybe an Arial font, or generic font that came with the engraver. I’m not sure if Logo means the same thing to a Chinese Manufacture trying to make clone of a product for 4 cents on the dollar as it does to a real brand.STRAP Genuine Leather. It’s stamped “Genuine Leather” so sure why not. The stitching and signed buckle is decent. It’s a $10 watch strap at best. Don’t get me wrong, it is adequately securing the watch to my wrist, but you need adequately low expectation in order to avoid disappointment. This is what you should except at this price point.HANDS COLOR Dark Blue. Sure why not, I’ll believe that. It’s definitely not baby blue. It meets my exceptions, I think the photographers adequately represent the color, but I don’t think the “fake Rodina” is Light Blue in the photo. Color aside, it would have been better copy if the hands were about a half millimeter longer. For the record, the edges of the hands are straight and smooth, with no burrs or imperfection on the finish even with a lope. I may have just lucked out, but my hands finish is flawless.WEIGHT 65g. My watch is 60 grams. I’m not very impressed with lying about something so easy to verify. It leads me to believe that the Movement, Case Material and Crystal claims where I cannot so easily verify are embellishments.Overall, I love this watch. It’s a fair price for the quality of the case and movement. I just could not justify dropping more money on a watch than I did on my last vacation for the real McCoy. The dial is a beautiful off-white. The concentric circles give the dial just a little deep, and reflect the light in a way that a photograph cannot capture. The case is a perfectly flawless mirror finish. There isn’t the slightest tool mark, scratch or defect. The edge between the face and the side of the case is very sharp, and in general all the edges are sharp. It may be in line with the Bauhaus style, but I personal would prefer at least a small chamfer to break the edge. Don’t get me wrong this is a style preference, the burrs have been removed and the edges polished, so you are not going to cut yourself in the office with it. However, I wouldn’t play any contact sports while wearing it.RODINA AUTOMATIC is printed in Arial, or something similar; not the Times New Roman as shown in the photograph. I think the font change is a slight improvement. I don’t know why it’s so hard to take a picture of the item you are actually selling. I mean it’s in an Amazon warehouse, just open one up, take a few pictures with a phone or something. The bottom of the dial is blank. It does not read “CHINA MADE” below six o’clock like the photo indicated. This a big disappoint for me. Let’s call the Rodina R005 what it is, a Chinese clone of Nomos Tangomat. Let’s face it my friends, a copy of a watch in current production is not a tasteful homage. At least by clearly marking the dial with where it was manufacture, helped me justify that albeit a direct copy, it is at least being forthcoming about its country of origin on the face of the dial helped indicate what it truly is. I could have gotten this same watch with NOMOS and MADE IN GERMAN on the face and the Sea-gull movement from Aliexpress, if I wanted the fake.

95% of the design, 5% of the price
I actually own the German watch on which this watch is slavishly based. And I bought one of the other Rodina 005s available here on Amazon (for a slightly lower price) to compare with this one. I have to say, everything the seller (GT&FQ) claims for this watch seems accurate. It is far more nicely executed than the other Rodina—specifically, the dial, small seconds dial, and hands are all much closer in texture and color to the German piece. The band, though nothing amazing, that comes with it is far, far nicer (the other Rodina came with a textured band I would have thrown away as soon as I took it out of the box). Even if you didn't have the German piece as a reference, you'd undoubtedly pick this one as the better design. Now, to be clear, the German piece is an order of magnitude nicer in every respect. (This watch's winding movement is tinny and scratchy, its hands are not as beautifully blued, it does not have a hacking second hand, etc.) However, I also paid 20x the price for the German piece. And that's the reason I'm keeping this watch—I will be able to wear it when I travel and benefit from 95% of the design excellence, with only 5% of the anxiety. The only disappointment is I really wanted, in addition to the "Rodina" on the face (which on this watch, unlike its competition, is in a much improved sans serif), "China Made" along the bottom of the face, which isn't there. I would have preferred that additional acknowledgment of its humble origins. Ah well.

Great timepiece bought as a gift but will be buying one for myself!
Very nice watch I gave it as a gift but have been able to wear it a few times. Machining is outstanding and the overall look is great. I will be buying one for myself. I would say this is the best dress watch under the $800 bracket. I feel comfortable making this evaluation as I have a several timepieces that are much more and much less expensive.

Very pleased
Great for the price. Case, face ands hands all look fabulous. The band is a weak point and I've ordered a replacement already. The winding noise is noticeable until I put the watch on my wrist, then it disappears. This is a great alternative to my Juengens Max Bill.

Borrowed Style With Genuine Quality
This is an awesome product. I'm not a watch guy, but I love the look so, after quite a bit of research, I went for it with this one ($130 isn't much of an investment, but it's more money than I like to throw away in one shot). I have to say, I'm incredibly impressed with what I got. The machining on the watch is impeccable, the bluing on the hands is a perfect compliment to the understated style of the face, and the whole package is so light and comfortable, you genuinely forget you're wearing it (something I've never experienced before).I've pretty much worn this nonstop since I got it a couple of weeks ago, and I'm completely sold. I may eventually replace the band since, as others mentioned, it is not quite the same quality as the rest of the watch, but it's honestly fine and actually quite comfortable.
