I was using the .5 and started with the 1.0 just a week ago. I can see the difference in just one week. I have mix skin with acne scars and sun marks. Skin got softly peeled and already got a firmer and smoother look. I highly recommend but judging for it's immediate action I would say to take breaks for sensitive skins in between usage. For the rest this product is high quality. Highly recommended.

I’ve been using SkinMedica Retinol 1.0 for several months and the results are impressive. This is definitely the best retinol you can buy without prescription. Best for people who already have experience with retinoids, not recommended for beginners . The first days I had some redness and flaking, which is normal for a 1.0% retinol. After few weeks of using my skin looked much smoother, pores appeared smaller, and my overall tone became more even. I use it only at night with a rich moisturizer. You must use sunscreen daily

Expensive, but worth the price. I have found it difficult to find an over the counter retinol product that works. This seems effective. I found that using it daily did dry my face and I had some minor peeling, but after that initial phase those effects resolved. I have fairly sensitive skin and I am tolerating it well. I do use a good moisturizer. If it seems to irritating starting with applications less frequently, as most retinol products recommend, should help ease your skin into it. The pump dispenses a small drop per pump and that is enough for my face and neck. I will purchase this again, although this bottle should last quite a while given the small amount used for each application.

I’ve been using the 0.5 retinol of this brand for a few months and thought I should upgrade to the 1%. With the 1% I experienced burning around my neck and mouth that lasted 24hrs after applying. Then, I experienced peeling 3 days after application for at least a week. At first I thought I was having an eczema flair up until I realized it was the retinol. During the peeling stage I made sure to use a gentle facial cleanser, cold water, and apply creams for eczema. After the peeling faze, I had a reduction of my hyperpigmentation from acne and my skin over all looks brighter and fresh. I was using it twice a week, but I’m probably going to drop back to the 0.5 for a while. Tl;dr if you have sensitive skin your face will definitely burn and peel. Make sure to moisturize, apply that sunblock, and avoid any irritants (dust, pet hair, perfumes, makeup, ect) during the peeling faze.
