Just got these, so I don't know how they'll hold up rust and sharpness-wise, but right now they're sturdy, incredibly sharp and really nice! They are heavy and a little large for my hands, but that's not really a downfall as they work incredibly well for carving clay!

Great for doing small carvings into pottery. Sharp carvings and very sturdy.

Heavy, nicely machined, better than what I was expecting. They have the weight of dental tools. Nice knurling for grip, actually sharp and digs in rather than some dull scratches designed to look affective as opposed to actually being affective. Would buy again in aheart beat, even though I'm sure I won't need to.

The positive: These tools work great for scraping and collecting specimens. The scraper parts of the tool have a good sharpness to them, allowing them to collect thin material. Out of the box, the tools seem very durable. So why the low rating? Rust, rust and more rust. After one wash these tools are rusting. There are rust spots all over the tools. This is concerning because this seems to indicate that these are not stainless steel tools. Because of this, I am now concerned about contamination of the specimens and the possibility that heavy metals were used to make these tools.

I like these tools for the reasons stated in the headline above but also because of the variety of shapes on the tips. You can either gouge out/scrape out areas of clay in these shapes or merely press the tip shape into clay to make indentions. One of the tips will work well for creating a fish scale texture on clay. Lots of creative possibilities with these. With some skill and finesse, these could also be used to scrape out/hollow out a solid piece of clay until it's a thin shell of clay.

Exactly what I was looking for, wish they had a set with even smaller tips for fine carving work.

I use these tools for carving in leather hard clay. They are of high quality and comfortable to use. The varied sizes and shapes provide many options for creating different patterns.

They are not very professional when it comes to their construction. They are full of burs, and do not have clean cutting edges. But they work for things with less detail requirements.
