True Acting Tips: A Path to Aliveness, Freedom, Passion and Vitality (Applause Books) Paperback – August 1, 2012

As an acting professor for the past 30 years for 3 different universities and as a private coach, all of Larry Silverberg's book are incredibly important to my teaching. I have been fortunate enough to have been certified as an instructor of the Sanford Meiser Acting Technique as taught by Larry Silverberg with the True Acting Institute, so needless to say I have all of his books, use them in all of my Theatre/TV/Film acting classes and my Audition Technique class. TRUE ACTING TIPS has now become a text that not only gives me Larry's and Sandy's pearls of wisdom to share with my students, but it also serves as an inspiration everyday. I start my day, with my hot cup of tea and reread the pages I have read previously and add one more everyday. This helps to solidify them in my mind and keeps me passionate about the core of truthfulness necessary for this technique to help young artist's soar. I have added it to my long list of Larry Silverberg books that I recommend to my seniors and to my fellow actor's and professors.Order one now. You will be so glad you did.

I have been a fan of Larry Silverberg and his books for a while now, and his latest book is another winner. TRUE ACTING TIPS has a uniquely different format and was inspired from his regular column "True Acting Tips" on his fabulous True Acting Website. When I received my book in the mail I opened it up immediately, planning on taking a quick glance through the book. I couldn't put it down. These tips are full of passion, intriguing thoughts and challenges, and are surprisingly emotionally intimate. Every actor should read this as a reminder that we must be connected to one another, we must look out for one another, and we must strive for being fully committed to what we are doing on stage and off. I am an actress and a high school theatre teacher and will use this all the time! Each of the tips will make for a great start to discussions and lessons, and on a personal level I will turn to it often as a source of hope and joy. This is a great resource of inspiration for actors, directors, teachers, and theatre students, and can be applied not just to the world of theatre, but also to life in general. This book is going to be on my desk at school and will be dog-eared and ragged in a very short time!

I like the quick reference layout. The book can be read through, but it's more about providing bits of information and inspiration at a moment's notice. I like picking it off the shelf and then simply flipping to a page and taking the information in, many times meditating upon the meaning and how the insights apply to my own being. Silverberg is a Meisner teacher, but this book transcends any technique or method, as it focuses upon truth as an entity of it's own.

True Acting Tips is a must for every serious actor. Of all the books Larry has written, this one is unique in that it is a distillation of his wisdom presented in a very captivating format of small bites - easy to read, and even easier to come back to. My copy is already dog-eared, and has a place in my home (out in the open) for easy reference. Larry asks us to stay awake to life - even in uncomfortable moments - so that we have a truthful point of view to work from. Finding a personal connection to characters in a play is the same as making meaningful connections in life and this book serves as a rudder. TRUE ACTING TIPS should be in the possession of every actor. I use it every day before my classes, my scene work and when cast in a role. One can read in order, a tip a day if you'd like, or open it to any page. The information is crucial and vital, and you will find that it's as if Mr. Silverberg is right in the room with you. One can not put this down. The concise brilliance of the tips, paired with complimentary quotes, compels you to turn the pages as if you where discovering some ancient secrets, and there is a ton of discovery in this book. I have noticed a change in the way I work from when I first started 30 years ago to now. Mr. Silverberg is responsible for that and this book helps to keep me on the true path. One of the best books on acting that I've ever read! The tips are wonderful, and this is a quick read. Easy to put down and pick back up.
