Can I use this for a 24v 1200watt dump load?

Yes you can use 24v but it will only use 460 watts. Power equal volts^2 / resistance. These are 2.5 ohm elements, 1.25 ohm when in parallel.

As far as instructions I'm not sure what you are looking for. It's a 36vdc heating element, you connect the 2 power wires and it does the rest. The box has the wattage, voltage, and dimensions on it. If you are looking for amperage its 1200W / 36vdc = 33.3 amps. This isn't perfect but it is very close. For the pipe connection you apply a form of thread sealant and screw it in, then check for leaks. Hope this helps

When you connect direct to solar panels. Is higher volage from panels a problem. The panels I am looking are 40 volt.

You should be fine using 40v panels. Wire in parallel and watch your amps more than the volts. 36v 1200w element has a 33amp limit, so add up the amps produced on your panels and don't exceed that......and don't forget to protect the whole thing with a 40amp fuse or breaker in there.
