The Residents, with the help of their friends, crammed the disc full of newly created material: 4 never-before-seen music videos, video versions of their CD-Roms and a newly restored edit of Vileness Fats, their first-ever video "experiment" - and that's in addition to recording new music for the 100 minute long disc. As usual, The Residents have created a great version of an icky idea: THE RESIDENTS' ICKY FLIX. Review: Visuals of the ultimate WEIRD - Our eyeball buddies have now graced us with the ultimate visuals to accompany their twisted, weird audio world. From their first blasphemy, The Third Reich and roll to their latest creation, NOTHING is left to the imagination when it comes to their dark, twisted world. Much like their other DVD's, their expanded CD Roms for the computer, this is not a true DVD. It is an interactive one, where you put in your own input and follow through a "maze" to discover their horriffic visions of the disturbed. Naturally, my favorite compilation in the DVD is their "Gingerbread Man." It graphicly depicts 5 of the 9 "happy" characters explored in their audio CD and their PC and Mac versions of their interactive CD Rom. Of particular interest is "The Weaver" as she weaves through all her paranoias of children being run over by cars, children cutting themselves with scissorrs and knives, children playing with guns, etc, etc. Also a good one is The Old Woman, as she tries to spray away her grandchildren who have morphed into insects. But behold! She has an ever-ready can of bug spray handy! This DVD is a MUST for us eyeball audiophiles! Review: 9.99 aneurysm - For Residents fans only, non fans will think they stumbled on media made by some strange fanatic cult. That being said. There are 2 audio tracks for this, and the original 5.1 tracks sound great This needs a blu ray!

Abandon Hope Ye Who Enter Here
The Residents are an acquired taste, which is usually a dry valium type flavor. For fans, such as myself, this collection is picture perfect in every way. For those just getting on the wagon, this is the perfect introduction to The Residents. Each video contains the original music along with newer versions recorded in 2000, and believe me they do not sound the same. Along with dozens of easter eggs, this DVD shows a 30 year history of band no one has ever heard of.

Unabashed creativity
Available, or not available : a true Residential question, as you know. So grab this one while stocks last. You can never know how long such anabashed beauty/creativity will remain at your disposal. You've been warned.

OUTSTANDING DVD
What a treat for enthusiasts of the mysterious Eyeball Ones! The reclusive Residents are approached with the proposal of releasing a DVD collection, which they oppose at first ..... until they concoct a way of using the DVD technology to create a new concept around some early videos. The result: an interactive chronicle/gallery of many remastered videos, films and digital media created by this most curious, fascinating and slightly disturbing ensemble. Using the DVD's alternative soundtrack capabilities, you are given the choice of hearing the original recordings, or new treatments of the songs, which they probably did to make the project more interesting than a sort of "best of" rehash anthology. Like that would matter to us. The collection is astounding: Almost two hours of pristine Residential archives, all rerecorded with new soundtracks that you don't have to listen to if you're a purist. Of particular interest is the Songs for Swinging Larvae section, with their interpretation of material originally done by British counterparts Renaldo and the Loaf (whose recordings now seem tragically on the vanish). Their tendency towards "concentrations" of their lengthier works is put to good use, in the case of Vileness Fats (their first ever created project, this is actually the 3rd version of the original soundtrack, which was never released due to poor quality), and the software titles The Gingerbread Man and Bad Day on the Midway. Fans of the latter title will greatly appreciate seeing the digital masters, beautifully clear, touching on familiar elements of the story, just enough to tease the unfamilar viewer, as well as taking outrageous liberties with the game guidlines. See, with The Residents there are no rules as we know them ..... There are also selections from Freak Show (their premiere CDrom venture), the Commercial Album (the extraordinary One Minute Movies), the legendary Hello Skinny, a reworked video of Constantinople and other previously unseen videos, a sumptuous serving of smirky surreality by this anonymous collective consciousness .... which has for nearly thirty years kept a select few of us vastly entertained and with overall greater hope for humanity ...... The Residents are not for everyone. Their video realizations, like their recorded material, takes many dark and disturbing detours; the techno/naive music is both mesmerizing and jarring, and utterly orginal. Fans of Sugar Ray and Britney Spears are not likely to care for it; fans of Primus, Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead and Marilyn Manson might. As for me: I'm a pants-down Residents fan, and I just bought me a piece of Video Heaven for a mere twenty bucks. We are simple, you are simple, life is simple, too. Icky Flix is simply superb.

Offensive, Repulsive, and Vile
This is a horrid piece of trash. Do not buy unless you are a fan of this group. I bought this DVD based on a magazine article and various positive reviews online. The images are asinine and juvenile. This is NOT music, but experimental electronic noise. I enjoy far out music (Sun Ra leaps to mind), but this stuff is ridiculous. Stay far away, please. You have been warned!

Not knowing much about The Residents but hearing & reading loads I decided to buy this as a beginners guide to. I wasn't & am not disappointed. The band are everything DEVO promised to be but better. Ok the dvd videos are a bit old & by modern sfx & videos look a bit ropey with cgi that is now dated to hell. But that does not really matter. What I got out of this is that The Residents are attempting to analyse the American Dream & deconstruct it & make sense of it & point the viewer & listener at everything that is good & wrong about it, much like Marilyn Manson did with his first album: Potrait Of An American Family. I'm buying more of The Residents on dvd asap, possibly a few albums & hopefully go see them live if they ever/still tour. Amazing dvd, go buy it. Restore your faith in music & videos potential. :) xXX
