Not the slinky you remember
These aren’t that great and are certainly not the way I remember them. I ordered these because my 4 year old discovered the slinky when she won a cheap plastic one at Chuck E. Cheese. It quickly became tangled and I told her I would buy her a new one. This was the one I purchased and thought that it would perform better since it was metal. Boy was I wrong. This feels like a pretty cheap imitation compared to the slinky’s of old. It tangles almost as easily and does not do the stair walking job at all. The base is too light and the whole thing falls over at once rather than slowly spilling down from step to step like it is supposedly designed to. It’s a shame that the slinky brand ruined such a timeless toy.

Great for bird feeders!...yes, you read that right.
Sooo....we did not purchase this as a toy. We bought it to wrap around the pole that holds our bird feeders. The squirrels love taking over our bird feeders, and we wanted something that would prevent them from eating all the bird food. Well, this works like a charm! We wrapped the slinky around the top of the "T" shaped pole and let it hang down the pole about halfway. When the squirrels run up the pole and climb onto the slinky, they get an elevator ride to the ground! It does not hurt the squirrels, and it saves the bird food for the birds. We have been using the slinky in this manner for a week and so far the squirrels have not figured out a way around it.I enjoyed playing with a slinky as a kid, and now I enjoy it just as much as an adult :)UPDATE: We have been using the slinky on our bird feeder for a few months now and not a single squirrel has made it to the feeder. I'm uploading some pics so you can see how it works.

Don't buy! Total junk! Breaks immediately!
I implore you to save your money! I can't believe these are even sold, they're so bad you want to believe you got a defective item. We purchased as favors for a birthday party and most were broken before the kids even left. It was really embarrassing. I really can't get over the fact that these are genuine Slinky brand. They don't walk down stairs (of any size), they stretch out and become misshapen almost immediately. Certainly within the first day of play. They're not worth any amount of money, and it's a joke to buy something and have it shipped and end in the trash the day you receive. Okay, maybe the day after you receive. I'm so sad apparently real old-school Slinkys don't exist.

Does not work going downstairs
Does not work like the "old" slinkys of my youth. They are are made too small in diameter and cannotaa go more than two steps before rolling up. WHY CAN'T THEY MAKE A DECENT SLINKY LIKE THE OLD DAYS???? I EVEN BOUGHT THE CLASSIC EDITION ONE THINKING IT WOULD BE LIKE THE ORIGINAL SLINBKY. THEN BOUGHT THE ORIGINAL ONE AND SAME PROBLEM.......TOO SMALL A CIRCUMFERENCE....IT IS NOTICABLE AS I REMEMBER MY SLINKY USED TO GO DOWN 15 CARPETED STEPSA AND EVEN TURN A CORNER WITH JUST A SMALL START AT TOP OF STEPS......WHY MAKE THAT CRAP IN USA AND NOT BE A REAL ORIGINAL.....AND WHY AMAZON SELLING IT??????

Squirrels hate it!
I put this on a shepherd's hook that holds a bird feeder. Squirrels try to jump on it to get up to the feeder but end up grabbing the Slinky and sliding back down to the ground, like a little "squirrel elevator." Lol!

does not walk down the stairs
That's the only reason why I purchased this - but I guess it's my fault and I should have read the reviews first. This slinky is too small for regular stairs. My kid instead started stretching and twisting it around other objects. She ended up ruining the coil. Now it's going to recycling. It was a "one-day-only" toy for us. :-(

Great to block squirrels to bird feeder
As others have written, the slinky has so far prevented squirrels access to my bird feeder. My bird feeder is hanging from a single Shepard post (see photos). To help stabilize the slinky I tied the bottom of the slinky to the bottom of post. Otherwise the tension of a stretched slinky brings it to the top of the post. So far so good after 2 months!

Not worth your money
Was not happy with this product I got it from a video that I watched on TikTok and it seemed like it would be fun but the ball that's in the picture has been up there for 2 weeks It will not fall

Dangerous rubbish
Bought the "Original" slinky expecting it to be unchanged from my childhood. Was I wrong!Does not climb down a standard set of UK stairs like the original spring did when I was younger. The coil is much too rigid and does not flex enough to "roll over itself" so it just falls down stairs like a steel can. Also the last coil is clipped to the end of the spring, but the clips are badly finished and razor sharp, cut myself on it trying to demonstrate how it worked to my nephew. Certainly wouldn't let a child play with it.Only left 1 star as 0 wasn't an option.

Crap
I don’t know how they have the cheek to call this original slinky as it nowhere near the quality of the old one. Would not even go down the stairs. It did go down from my hand to the bin good enough though.

Measure your stairs before purchasing to avoid disappointment
Bought a plastic no brand rainbow coloured jumbo one for my 4 year old grandson which he loves so thought I’d buy an original slinky made from metal to entertain my grandson under supervision. I eagerly opened it and tried it on my stairs, in a way I was reliving my childhood because I’d always wanted a slinky but lived in a bungalow as a child which obviously didn’t have stairs) unfortunately my stairs are not suited to the size of this slinky. It will not slink down them however or wherever on the stairs I place it. A step on my stairs measures very approximately 9”(22cm?) deep by 6 1/2”(16cm?). Maybe the slinky would walk down a narrower step but it doesn’t like my ones at all.

Suffers from the same problem as most modern toys... cheap and cheerful
I remember my slinky from when I was a kid and it really did work well. It went down entire sets of stairs and we spent a lot of time creating courses for it to traverse. Unfortunately, these modern ones are a bit naff. You are lucky if they make it past 3 or 4 stairs before it flings itself off the stairs entirely. My kids thought it was rubbish after 5 minutes of playing with it.To be fair, they do actually like to sit with it and muck around with it in their hands, but for going down stairs, it's a no from me.

Slinky’s are rubbish :0(
Why is it that slinky’s promise so much and deliver so little. It doesn’t matter how careful you are with them they deform or get tangled. I had hoped buying the proper ones would mean that they lasted a little longer but alas no, within a day these were no longer useable as one had a tangle and the other was deformed, simply from being released down the stairs. Such a shame and a massive waste of money. Maybe just watch a video of slinky’s in action and use your money on something that will last longer?
