Dog Nutrition and Cookbook: The Simple Guide to Keeping Your Dog Happy and Hea Paperback – Illustrated, 22 October 2019

My 3 year old GSD lost interest in her food, so I started looking into alternatives. I had major concerns about the fresh food brands out there, like FreshPet and Farmer's Dog because there can be handling issues between their kitchens and my house, and given my dog's sensitive tummy, I wasn't willing to risk it.This is the second book I've checked out on making my own dog food, and it's really well done. The recipes are simple to do, quite cost effective, and my pup devours her food now. That is really the ultimate endorsement, that my dog loves her food. There's plenty of variety to keep her happy, guidelines on safe and healthy foods, nutritional guidelines, and the tone is, hey, this is good for your dog, but there are also great prepared foods out there and here's what to look for because not everybody has the time to cook.My one comment, and it isn't really a criticism, is that a lot of the recipes call for chicken broth. Every broth, stock, bouillon, or bone broth, regardless of whether it's beef, chicken, or veggie, available in the grocery stores has onion in it in some form, either as a mirepoix, extract, juice, or flavoring. Unless you get a specially made for dogs broth, or cook your own, I wouldn't use it. Honestly, I had a vet recommend broth for a dog that was in kidney failure and not eating/drinking and when I ask about the onion in it, they just didn't know it was there. The good news is that the recipes seem tasty enough using water.

My dog LOVES the meals and I love that it has the calories per meal so I can portion her food off based on her weight and daily caloric intake needs.I learned a lot about dog health and food from this book and HIGHLY recommend this if you’re thinking about cooking your own dogs meals!

I like this book because I am concerned about my dog's health and I am not so sure that processed food is very good for her and I want a healthy dog.

Very informative book with lots of hints and tips. Great recipes that are easy to follow and/or tweak. It has also given me the confidence to feed some recipes raw

Very interesting. Will never feed my dog with kibble and canned food again.
