SCC Peerless 0232605 Auto-Trac Light Truck/SUV Tire Traction Chain - Set of 2

I was wary of buying these chains without any Amazon reviews to go off of, but I read reviews and forum comments from other sources on the web to find that Peerless makes a great product. I made the leap, and I am extremely happy with what I got. First, I'll give you the positives, then I'll list a couple of negatives or potential negatives. FITMENT & INSTALL - I have a Tacoma with 31/10.5/R15's, matched my tire size to the correct Peerless product using the convenient fitment guide provided (at least at this time) on the Amazon product page (there is also a fitment guide on the Peerless website, I double-checked because I'm paranoid like that). The installation process is lined out in 6 steps with the provided installation guide, and it takes me about a minute to 90 seconds per tire to get the chains on. The small amount of slack that will be in the chains to begin with will quickly be worked out after a couple hundred feet or less. I usually double-check after rolling for a while to be sure the ratcheting system is working properly, but I haven't run into any problems yet. ****** EDIT ****** - After reading some of the reviews that followed mine, I realized a lot of people are having fitment issues. I would advise taking the recommendation of other users and sending Peerless an e-mail before purchasing these chains online just to be sure these will fit your tires. Certain tires sizes have multiple chain sizes that are listed as compatible. Sending Peerless an e-mail would remove the guess work on your part and potentially prevent a future headache. Remember, chains will only work if they fit. ****** END EDIT ****** TRACTION - Traction is great. Full disclosure, I'm not extremely experienced with chains. I live in the desert, and there are only one or two occasions a year that I can bring these chains up to the snow country and have some fun. The vast majority of the time, I don't need them, but it's comforting to know that they're ready and willing if such a challenge arises that I need to use them. So far, they have not let me down, and I can't imagine a situation in which they would fail me and a different chain would succeed. RIDE QUALITY - Ride quality is fair to good, considering the effect that snow chains typically have on ride quality. The links are low profile, and the diamond pattern provides a much smoother ride than typical radial chains. Compared to a large-linked radial chain, riding on these chains is like floating on a cloud. Compared to other diamond patterned chains or V patterned cables, I think the ride is par for the course. NEGATIVES - There are two problems with these chains, in my opinion. First, I believe the price on Amazon is more expensive than what you might be able to find these chains for at Walmart (or a comparable retail store). When I was searching the web for information on these chains, I found a number of people who purchased them for $50-$65 in-store. My problem was that I bought these in a pinch where Amazon was a faster option than Walmart. If you gotta have 'em, you gotta have 'em. If you have time, shop around before you purchase from Amazon. You might be able to find a better deal. Second, I believe these chains might be more prone to breakage than a heavier-duty chain. Take that with a grain of salt, however. The few times I have been able to bring these chains out of the bag, they have held up just fine. I have experienced no breakage. I just feel like that build quality and components are such that if you have to use chains multiple times per year, you might be better served buying a more "premium" snow chain without an auto-tightening system (always the weakest component). Ratchets don't last forever. ****** EDIT ****** The price on Amazon has fluctuated wildly since my purchase. I have seen them as low as $65, and as I am writing this, they are $107. Please do your research if you want to be sure you're getting the best deal. ****** END EDIT ****** If you're looking for a low-profile, low-cost, effective traction device that is easy to install and remove, I think this it.

How long does it really take to put on, is the question i always have. Since many people even with chains will not put them on due to how big of a pain it is to put on and take off. So i test fitted mine in my packed snow driveway during the day when temps werent too horrible. The design seems good to make it easier and faster to put on. So I pulled the chains out, read the instructions. And then started the timer, without practicing. 3 minutes to get the first one on, 2 minutes to get the second one on. The instructions are water proof and somewhat tear proof, but not sturdy enough to kneal on to put the chains on. If the instructions were sewed into a small tarp like they do for tent instructions it would be more useful. Even with small piece of cardboard, i got my knees wet moving from side to side to pull the chains behind the tire initially. I recommend throwing a cheap set of work gloves in the storage sack so they will be there when you need them. Not sure if a small harbor freight tarp would fit in the bag with the chains, but you might get lucky if your careful and keep your knees dry that way. Taking them off took longer because i didnt read the instructions first. At least for me, you need to look underneath to see where the back connector is and you want it somewhat towards the top when you go to take them off. Also since you went around corners when using them, they wont be aligned with each other when you go to take them off, so you may have to move a bit to get the back connector to the top for one wheel then move a little bit again to get the other one. Other than the time needed to position the truck initially and then drive off them with done, its very quick to come off. Like 20 seconds. Since i didnt need them for a few days after so i took them in the house to melt and dry off before i packed them up again. You might consider laying them in the trunk or floorboads for the same reason if you have room, before repacking. I needed a set of chains for when i plow my driveway, and for standby use occasionally when I go into the mountains. These seem to be well reviewed and easier than traditional chains to put on. I recommend that you try putting them on once before you need them to have the practice and to make sure they will fit. Looking at how they cut into the packed snow in my driveway they appear to work well. I was tempted to get a set of the fabric chain alternatives as they are so much lighter and easier to store and even faster to put on. And if i was only plowing the driveway they would probably be okay for that since its limited use. But i think if you ever had to put them on to go over the mountains on i70 the fabric ones wouldnt last a trip as you went from snow and ice to clear and then back again. Of course if you have to use chains on a freeway that has bare spots, they will wear out quickly too (and cause much more damage if they break. But i think they would last longer than the fabric ones.

I was initially concerned because even though it says on the listing here that 0232105 supports my tire size (145/55 R19), it wasn't listed on the insert that it came with. However after testing it, it fit just fine. Only reason I am giving 4/5 is because it was pretty annoying to untangle, took maybe 10 minutes or so outside in ~20 degree weather. But after untangling, they went on very simply. Haven't had to drive on them quite yet, just put them on to make sure they fit and that I knew how. But they seem pretty standard, the auto-tightening function worked well.

I just bought my second two pairs of these for my new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon - I had two pairs for my previous Jeep, a 2005 Rubicon with BFG Duratracs in LT245/75R16. I use them to get to our off-grid cabin in the Colorado Front Range at 8,100' and that amounts to a few times each winter, most recently in mid May when almost two feet came down in a late spring snow. Yes, I can still manage to get all 4 wheels to spin even with 4 of these on and the differential lockers engaged, but that is typically when the snow is least 15" deep and I'm trying to ascend our fairly steep driveway, which is not plowed. But I don't blame the chains for that - they are a reasonable compromise between aggressive, driveable, and being easy to install and I'm not sure if larger chains would do any better when the undercarriage is in effect a snow plow. Others have complained about the spring loaded tighteners, but I've used these chains a bunch of times and have not had any breakage or damage. Longest use of them was about 10 miles - 5 in and 5 out, ascending/descending 2,000' on a forest service road. But like with any chains make sure they are well put on without twists - do the job right and the tighteners are fine. In terms of size, well, on the 2005 Jeep they installed fine if I follow my tips below. Before I did, they often seemed to be small. They aren't at least for my Jeep, but you have to do it right - if you are at all sloppy the tighteners will seem to be too short - center the diamonds on the tire. I'll edit this if I have problems on the 2017 Jeep. My only complaint is that the carry cases aren't sturdy enough and neither are the zippers - both can easily rip. Here are tips for installing them: - Dig out your tires before trying to install - I use a small avalanche shovel that I keep in the vehicle - dig them out all the way down including behind the tire. I know this should be obvious, but do it completely and thoroughly without rushing so that the tire is entirely exposed all around where it touches the snow. - Follow the instructions carefully - don't try to wing it - do it exactly as they say. Get them sorted out and untwisted before trying to install - take your time. Be careful of the tighteners - they easily snap closed and could be quite cruel to the fingers if they unexpectedly pop. Center the diamonds on the tire. - Do not hurry. You will find that if you are slow, careful and methodical they will go on easier and faster than if you try to rush. I learned these three tips by not doing them. If you follow them, you might do the job in 2 minutes per tire. If not, well, you will eventually do them anyway after you've wasted 15 minutes on the first tire and are cold and frustrated and your hands are frozen and the chains seem too darn small.

These are very self-explanatory and pretty easy to put on. They really do work good! We had to use them several times this winter. The fact that you don’t need tensioners and they tension themselves is really convenient and it works great. Just be sure to stop and remove them before you hit gravel Road or pavement. We just moved to Montana, and this was our first year ever needing snow chains. After hours of tireless research and talking to friends, we decided to try this brand because it had good reviews and it seemed like it would be durable, but also a good value for the money. The area that we live in really doesn’t require snow chains very much maybe just a couple times a year, So we are very happy with this pair. We got two sets to put on all four tires. I can’t speak to their durability if you have to use them all winter long nonstop but for occasional blizzards, these were extremely useful in helping us get out of our driveway and back roads until we hit pavement.

Not easy to put on or take off. I was on gravel. One side came out of box all screwed up. I had to really work at it to get all the chain links to line up properly. The drivers side went on pretty good. The passenger side tensioner barely got off the ground, though. I never could get it to line up properly. I tried many times to get it to align properly. It never would. When I finally drove slowly up my snowy hill, I could hear something making noise on that side of the car. It was probably the tensioner making contact with the ground. So hard to get these chains off. One tensioner was at the top. I released both tensioners and tried to remove the chain like I put it on. The chain was under the tire at this point. One tensioner broke (won’t synch back up) when it recoiled too fast. To get the chain off, I ended up under the back of the car & pushing every thing between the tire & wheel assembly forward. Since the tensioner was loose, it kept catching on all the wheel assembly parts. This was in the snow. Drivers side chain is still on. My knuckles are all busted up & bleeding now. I’m a pretty good shade tree mechanic. These chains suck. The vehicle is an Infinity Fx-35 with 265 60 R18 tires. I ordered the correct size for my tires.

I needed new chains for my plow truck and researched a lot before finally deciding on these. I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado with stock 245/75R16 tires. I read all of the reviews and ordered with a little bit of apprehension about them fitting. These things tend to have one of two reviews, either people 1) Love them or 2) hate them because they don't fit. I ordered them in hopes of falling in category one. When they arrived I intended on trying them out before I needed them but never got around to it. Then one day, late at night we were coming back from snowboarding and it had been a particularly snowy cold day and we couldn't make it up our driveway. My driveway is about 130 yards long and somewhat steep. The cold snap a few weeks ago had frozen the ground to where the freezing rain made the driveway like an ice skating rink. My wife was driving and got almost to the top then slid most of the way back down. She has a 2000 Suburban with the same size tires so i hopped out and walked up to the house, eager to try out my new chains. 1/2 hour later while I am slipping on the ice, laying in the snow, and using lots of colorful words I finally get the chains on. I am frustrated because I can tell that they should be easy to put on, but mine seem to be just a hair to small. The cable in the ratchet is about 1.5 inches too short. I have to manually get the chains as tight as they will possibly go then pull as hard as I can to get them to latch. Once I finally got them on, she drove up the driveway and parked in the garage. I had to then take the chains off, and go through the whole ordeal again as I fought to get them on my plow truck so i could clear off the driveway and road. They did not go on any easier the second time, and my words got even more colorful. Once I was done plowing I came inside and logged onto Peerless' website thinking I must have done something wrong. The card on the chains listed my tire size as compatible with these chains so I assumed I had the right size. I watched the promotional video on the website and to my chagrin there was a dainty lady who is driving in snowy conditions and hops out, installs these in seconds barely getting any snow on her hands and gets back in her car with a big smile and drives off happily into the snowstorm! My wife started poking fun at me saying maybe she should have put them on because obviously women were better at it. I immediately wrote an email to customer service explaining what happened and asking what I did wrong. It took a week but I finally received an email back asking for my address. Next thing I know they sent me a pair of the next size up: 0232105. No charge, no questions, just a note saying let us know if these fit. Interestingly, these chains also listed my tire size as compatible. Putting these new ones on is amazing, just like the lady in the video. They go on quick and easy, they stay tight and centered and come off quick and easy. Not only that, they grip better than any other chains I have used, they ride better and are quieter than any other chains. I am seriously considering buying a second pair for my wife to keep in her Suburban - I have never been so pleased with chains before. I have only used them for a few weeks and cannot speak to long term reliability, but I use them a lot. I have to plow my driveway and a couple miles of private road whenever it snows so if they give out on me I will be sure to update my review, but as for now I would recommend to anyone that needs chains to get these. I have used a lot of chains and these are by far the best in all categories: ease of install/removal, ride, grip, and noise. But be warned, make sure you get the right size! And you might want to check the fit when you get them, don't go by the card that lists compatible tire sizes. EDIT 09 March 2014: So I have been using these for a couple months and I still love them. It looks like the winter is coming to an end and I will be putting my plow truck away soon. The chains worked great for plowing and getting up my driveway on slick days. I used them a couple of other times as well, like when I came across a girl who had slid off the road and needed to be pulled back out. The chains gave me the traction I needed to be able to pull her out. I even had a friend of mine call me out of the blue to ask for recommendations on chains, he needed a new set and knew I had to plow a grade and wanted to know what I used and if I liked them. He hauls firewood for a living during the winter and needed chains to get in and out of the woods with. I told him to get a set of these and told him the same shining review I gave here. The only time these chains let me down was once when I got stuck in my plow truck. During the constant forward-reverse cycles as I was working my way out one of the chains came off. It was a bummer but at least it didn't wrap itself around my axle (like the older style chains used to do) it just came off and laid on the ground. Alas, when I needed it most it wasn't there. But with one chain on my plow truck and another set on my suburban we eventually pulled the truck out. All-in-all I am very satisfied with these chains, they are quieter than most, have a smoother ride than most and go on and off very easily.

I wasn't too sure when I ordered these if they would be sturdy enough, but a weekend of ice and snow they performed perfectly. I installed these on a Ford F150. I have an off grid cabin that is on an unmaintained road. and there are a few hills to navigate to get there. in December there is ice on the road and snow on top of that. 4-wheel drive alone won't cut it. I'm used to old school heavy chains, so I was a bit skeptical when ordering these. They arrived fast and I did not do a test fit. but they fit perfect. I would say you should do a test fit just to get yourself familiar with how to install them. once you know its super easy. just have to remember that the "red" end of the cable goes to the rear only on the drives side of the vehicle, on the passenger's side it's the blue end toward the rear. The instruction don't specify left or right side. Other than that, they go on easily and come off easier. the tensioner seemed sturdy enough and held the chains tightly. Performance wise they worked. On the icy snow-covered road, I had plenty of traction and the chains never slipped or spun on the tires. I may but another set for the front tires.

I purchased the chain size relative to my tire size using the chart that was showing in the description/photos of the product. When i received the chains there was an accompanying tag that verifies the size of the chains and list of tire tire sizes it fits. To my surprise my tires were not included in that list. In fact all the tires sizes shown that it did fit had a rim diameter 2" less than mine. I thought for certain they would not fit. But sizing is based on three variables, rim size, tire width and aspect ratio so I thought I best try them on my truck to verify. Well wouldn't you know...they fit perfectly. I have a low aspect tire and they didn't even touch my rims. if your rire size is not the other package you ordered I'd recommend trying them on your vehicle to verify I have not used in snow however they are similar to my Konig XG12 for my other vehicle in pattern and somewhat similar to how they synch up (I love the Konigs). Putting these new chains on my truck ..it was similar in ease to the Konigs in terms of affixing them. I honestly can't think of how one could make an easier chain to affix. I know a few reviewers were concerned about the plastic tensioners. All i can say is that my XG12's have somewhat similar plastic tensioner and I've used them often with no issue but that may not be a fair comparison. Time will tell but I'm happy with the fit, ease of install and the tread pattern

Came in with one chain latch broken i cant even use this, also the sizing is not correct they said it will fit a tire 255/45 r19 but it does not fit it at all it is too small
