I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! It’s chock full of all the information a woman needs before heading into the wild. It starts where we would start , at the very beginning, and gives lots of helpful advice about everything. How to prepare, what gear you’ll need, and how to decide what will work best for you personally. Great info on resources to make your adventure safe and enjoyable. I love that Susan doesn’t just give a laundry list of what to buy, ( all the newest, most expensive stuff....), but encourages us to start by looking at what we already own, and then to outfit ourselves with the best gear for our specific needs. As a woman who until now has only done local hiking, on well known trails, this book has really encouraged me to begin taking my love of the outdoors to the next level. With the help of Susan, I know I will be prepared to explore the wilds and experience exciting new adventures!

I’ve been looking forward to getting a copy of the new book Woman in the Wild by Susan Joy Paul and the book doesn’t disappoint. The book, loaded with action photos and packed with useful information, leads women, especially those who have trepidation about outdoor recreation, on a step-by-step journey to get started hiking, camping, and climbing mountains. The author’s enthusiasm for nature and adventure and her knowledge of all of the basic skills needed to get outside shine through the words and photographs. Besides the important information about what to pack, camp cooking and food, and staying healthy on the trail, Ms. Paul also includes info being safe, navigating with GPS and maps, and mountaineering and rock climbing. I also liked that she included how to successfully plan for outdoor adventures and being responsible for your personal safety. While I bought the book to share with women in my life, including my granddaughters, Women in the Wild is not just for women. It’s also an informative read for men who want to get outside and have adventures with their women. Buy it, study it, and hit the trail!

A fantastic guide for women of all hiking levels who want to up their outdoor game, be it traversing a gently undulating back country trail or hiking up a 14,000-footer. Susan covers everything under the womanly sun and then some. (I’m getting a bear-proof canister and a head lamp myself!) Her knowledge is vast and impressive, which she conveys in a straight forward and easy to read writing style. At the end of each chapter she suggests action steps related to that particular topic. But what I loved the most were the inspiring pictures of Susan hiking and mountain climbing in the wilderness. Her obvious love of the outdoors will awaken your own wild soul.

I’m 60 and want to start taking steps to better health.. I’m not crazy about sweating it out at the gym.. But walking/ hiking I can do.. This book is a perfect guide.. covers everything I need to know.. I’m ready to start on the healthier me. The Author of this book is 60If she can do it.. so can I

I received a copy of this book directly from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.I found Woman in the Wild by Susan Joy Paul to be a fantastic resource for those interesting in getting into trail hiking. Not only did I find the writing to be motivating, but the book is broken down into sections of incredibly useful and thorough information - from how to choose and fit a backpack, to personal care while out on the trail. I was impressed by the amount of detailed information and thought that went into the book, and I believe it would be a very useful guide for any beginner interesting in spending more time in the great outdoors. I couldn't recommend this enough!
