This is designed to plug into a 240v outlet strip only and will not plug into a US 120v outlet. Look for cords designated 14AWG for just a US 120v outlet.

Is it safe to to connect two of these to make an extra long cable?

It depends on how long you plan to make the cable. 14AWG should be good for up to 100 feet (30m) but may start to get warm if the load reaches the full 15amps at that length. Short length extension should not be an issue.
