Great transformation
We are active do-it-yourselfers... sometimes we get it right and sometimes we don't, so when we come across something like this we like to add our 2 cents. First of all, the prep is the worst part... aside from the fumes. From all the reviews, we learned that you should err on the side of caution and over-prepare the surface. This took us a full day. Scraping every surface, cleaning it 2-3 times, light sanding, and then a final vacuum and tack-cloth... and then taping off the area. We also learned from reviews that we should purchase extra rollers/foam brushes because these start to break down. That was a brilliant suggestion because we changed rollers as soon as we noticed they were breaking down... bought an extra 3-pack at Home Depot. Now we were ready to paint. Safety first... wear a painting mask/respirator and make sure to ventilate. These are some serious fumes! After the mixing period (45 minutes), we started and it went fairly quickly. We also learned from reviews that we should purchase extra rollers/foam brushes because these start to break down. That was a brilliant suggestion because we changed rollers as soon as we noticed they were breaking down... bought an extra 3-pack at Home Depot. Note that you should not try and touch up areas while it's tacky. You'll probably be making matters worse and will be sanding off rough spots. Let it be until it's dry and go back later and fix.We purchased the double kit since we were doing the full tub and tile enclosure. We used one full quart for one coat on the tile and wound up purchasing an additional kit. A single kit works for two full coats on the tub. (that was disappointing... there goes another $80... the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5)I'll amend the review once we have been living with it for a few weeks, but all signs point to a great transformation.

Not bad
I did a bathtub with surroundings (a one piece tub in the kids bathroom), with the double kit that sounded like it would be enough for the job. It does not look too bad, but one more coat of paint would have made it better, but there is only enough for 2 coats. You can still see slight color differences in the paint from overlaps and so on. If you have a colored tub or shower with surroundings, get 3 set of paint.... I actually went to the hardware store and got a tub kit from Rust-Oleum so I could apply a 3rd layer, and it helped... I were worried about the 2 types of paint and what could happen when I applied a layer on top of the AquaFinish, but it worked.... We will see if it lasts...Get a paint mask with organic filters - this is bad stuff.... Get many extra form rollers - after 1/2 a tub the roller swells and start to fall apart.. The form brushes are worthless - use normal brushes.. It dries super fast after you roll it on, I think it would help if you can cool the room down - slows the drying I think... The gloves supplied are cheap, get more... Get plastic inserts for the paint tray - acetone cleans the paint of, but the inserts are cheap..

... ugly pink cast iron tub that was otherwise in good condition. This was part of a complete
I ordered this kit several months ago to refinish our ugly pink cast iron tub that was otherwise in good condition. This was part of a complete, to the studs, shower and bathroom update. I had done a lot of research on various products for refinishing tubs and the AquaFinish seemed to have the best ratings from professionals and homeowners. I followed the instructions to the letter and then some. I have painted cars in the past and painted tubs with other products, so I know that you can't do too much prep. After extensive prep I applied 2 coats using high quality rollers that I bought instead of the junk ones the kit provides. I had decided to roll it on as I didn't want to risk ruining my HVLP gun by spraying this product through it. I let the tub dry for a week before we started using it again. All was fine until 2 days ago when a piece about the size of a quarter came loose. Now there is a piece about 1''x 4'' peeled up. There is no contact info for AquaFinish on any of their product and I have done research online for contact info and come up blank. My plan is to let the tub dry for several days, then sand down the area and recoat it again and hope for the best. I wanted to talk to the owners of the company to get their advice as well, but since they are well hidden that won't be possible.I don't recommend anyone buy this product unless they have a lot of experience with auto paint and prepping, and then it is still going to be a gamble. If I can't make this work I will have to tear out a tile floor and tile shower walls that are all new in order to remove this tub and install a new one.
