Loved it!
What do a seventy year old grey haired granny and an ex CIA operative have in common??Well, turns out they're the same peron, Barbara Gold, and she's only retired because they forced her into it!!!!So here she is living near her son, his wife and grandson.Doing nothing but being bored. Then a member of her book club drops dead and it's not through natural causes. So Barbara pops on her sleuthing cap to find out who killed him.Rather enjoyable book that's not the norm with its main character.

Not convinced
Barbara Gold use to work for the CIA before she retired. Now she is bored. Until one member of her book club suddenly gets murdered. The book's Unique Selling Proposition is that as a CIA operative she recognises the symptoms of poisoning straight away - everyone else thinks that the old guy has died of natural causes. She wants to investigate because a) she's bored and b) it wouldn't be much of a story if she just dialled 911 and told the cops about her suspicionsI got it as a free sample to lure me in. It's an interesting USP, but the ever-repeating CIA stuff is irritating and the murder stuff isn't very well told. I won't be buying Book 2.

constant reminders grandma is an ex-CIA operative on nearly all the pages
I did like the sound of this book, it was about a septuagenarian widowed grandmother, who sporadically babysits her 13 yr old grandson. She is a retired ex-CIA operative which we learn from page 1 and continue to learn from virtually every page throughout the book. I think as readers we only need to be told once, we don't need the constant reminders, unless lots of retired forgetful women of a certain age are reading this! I confess that did jar on me quite a lot, I did read through to the end but it if this is going to be part of a series then I'm one reader who will give it a miss.

A fun read.
An enjoyable read. Easy going and comfortable. It was at times a good page Turner.

It was free and good.
Bought it because it was free, read it in one sitting, yes the constant hints at her lurid past got a bit tiresome but maybe we'll find out more in the next books. I'll buy the next one and see if I feel like paying for any more.

Enjoyable
As a "woman of a certain age" I had high hopes for this book. It was by no means the worse book I have ever read but it did seem a little bit shallow. Even so, if the "granny" character could be more developed I think it has the makings of a great series. I enjoyed it without being enthralled by it.
