12-0519 12V Flexible LED Reading/Map Light, Black

Ford went cheap on the dome light in my Ranger Sport -- only one on/off switch and it's on the far side of the steering wheel and out of reach, if you're the passenger. But they were generous with 12V outlets. This is a great map-reading/glove-compartment-searching/looking-for-something-in-my-bag light. The neck is long and very flexible, the light is bright (and no batteries to replace), the on/off switch is convenient and operates easily. As one poster noted, the plug is a bit of a tight fit, but it also won't come loose, either. You can plug it in, bend the head down out of the way, and it's always ready to use. Or unplug it and store it in the glove compartment (it doesn't take up much room). We're already liking this more than we thought we would.

The previous version I bought allowed the gooseneck to swivel at the connector. That became loose and I tried to use glue to solidify it at the connector. The glue ran inside the connector, shorted it out, and drained my battery. So I ordered the loctite epoxy putty to use instead of glue, and then bought another of the lights. Lo and behold, the manufacturers installed a rigid connection of the gooseneck at the connector in the new light, so no need for the putty. Light works great. I shine it onto the speedometer in my car dashboard ( non digital ) which is very hard to read in bright sunlight. I used the first light 6 months.

A great 12v/cigarette lighter car light! Just what I was looking for, a simple map light with an on/off switch. Certainly a handy item to have during night driving. The 360-degree swiveling head is a nice touch to the design as well. My car doesn't have a light inside the glovebox, so this helps solve that issue too! No complaints thus far; it's a bit on the pricey side, but as long as it holds up over time, I'd say it's worth it.

Simple, dependable, very bright

I had a similar product for several years - but someone thought that they liked it better than I. So I bought this one. The LEDs are white-light bright with good power. The flexible neck appears to be sturdy. While I may have missed it in the description, I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that the head rotates on the end of the neck. I have not tried rotating more than 180 degrees - so I don't know if it does a full 360. The switch is a rocker switch that operates with one hand, which I prefer over my old light that had a push-button switch that often required two hands. Only complaint is that the plug is really tight, which created issues on achieving proper power pick-up. Thus don't expect to install and remove this plug-in light quickly and on the fly. As I have other outlets in my van to run chargers, this is not really an issue. But for those short of outlets, think about it.

Had this product installed in my car and had not used it yet. When I finally did use the 12 volt plug came disconnected from the stem. The nut that holds it together was apparently not tight. It was impossible to screw the nut back on without unsoldering the wires and disassembling the unit. After contacting Amazon about another item I had purchased and talking with some third grader who was unable to accomplish anything I couldn't waist my time trying to contact them again. I wanted to talk to the manufacturer of this product to discuss the situation and see if they would replace it but because of Amazons response with my previous question I could not waist anymore time. I hate writing negative reviews about a product because usually a phone call and a conversation with a good customer service rep would solve the problem but Amazon pushed me past my limits this morning.

I use it in the hatch area of my SUV, where there is no built-in light. The switch on this thing is very finicky — It doesn't always turn on with the first click. Too often, it takes some jiggling to get it to work. But— this lamp seems to be the only one available that plugs into a 12 volt receptacle, so it's better than groping in the dark.

Good lighting and seems durable so far.
