Activation Outside China! : Cell Phones & Accessories Review: Great solution for China travel - I was immediately impressed with the company even before I bought the card. I asked a question (from the US), and it was answered fully within hours. Ordered and received the card. Yes, you do have to register the card (no burner phones allowed in China), you just have to follow the instructions. The company now provides a web link for submitting the information with a jpg of your passport. The website allows you to verify if the registration is successful, plus you get an e-mail. Inserted into a Moto G5 Plus on my way to China, and followed their CLEAR instructions for setting up the card for data. On arrival in China, it activated automatically, and it's working perfectly. Have used it to call the US, so much better than trying to use Skype or Magicjack with their inherent delays due to a slow internet. Data is working perfectly; use it with a witopia VPN, allowing use of google, google maps, etc. Several local calls made. A PRC friend was a bit skeptical, and had offered to get me a China Unicom card in China, but this card is so much easier for the both of us. I had it on arrival, in case we didn't immediately meet up, and she does not have to cancel the card on my departure. It just works, with no hassles. The company follows up on your purchase, to make sure there are no problems, and responds quickly to any questions. Have bought this card 3 times now, and would DEFINITELY buy again from this company. This card is valid for 90 days, not the 15 or 30 days of other cards. It works in China. You can call Chinese phones, Chinese phones can call you using a Chinese phone number, not an international number. It calls the US and just saved me when I had to spend 45 minutes with my bank when despite my travel notice, they locked my card due to "suspicious" activity. When outside wi-fi coverage, the data capability allows you to use the internet, though I'd get a VPN so you are not locked behind the Great Firewall. Don't believe the negative reviews, I am currently in China using it, and can verify it works IF you follow the CLEAR instructions for registration and setup. If you can fill in a simple web form and upload a jpg, you can register. Setting it up for data is clearly explained. Review: Data doesn't work. - Voice calls and text work. Data doesn't.

If you want to control your cellular costs in China, this SIM is a good way to do it
I bought this and had one day delivery. It arrived the next day. I sent the passport photo and the phone number to the company to activate the SIM card. When I got to Shanghai Pudong (PVG), I had the China Unicom SIM in the phone, It required a couple of minutes after I turned it on to complete the connection. Once it did, I had data and voice before I got to the immigration queue. The calls to the US were free since I bought the package with 100 free minutes of calling. The data was great, since roaming data charges are ridiculously high. I would definitely recommend buying this SIM card before going to China.. China Unicom uses GSM/HSDPA/LTE. My Samsung S6 Edge (Verizon) has all of these on the right channels and my phone is unlocked from Verizon. The LTE works like LTE in the US. This SIM is pre-cut for all SIM card sizes. Pull your SIM card first to see what size you need, then separate the excess plastic using your fingers. Tech Notes: Unicom is the number 2 provider in China, but I use them because they are compatible with my phone since they use GSM.HSDPA/LTE. Their big competitor, China Mobile, uses TD-SCDMA which is only used in China. The iPhone 6S sold by Sprint and in the Apple stores includes TD-SCDMA and would work on China Mobile. My Samsung S6 does not. Furthermore, the other iPhone 6S models do not have TD-SCDMA capability. The SIM is precut for the different size SIM cards used today. You simply punch out the size you need with your fingers. If you are uncertain which size your phone uses, remove your SIM card and compare it to the Unicom SIM card to see what you need to remove for it to fit.

Great product, works well. Fantastic service.
On a recent two week trip to the Shenzhen area this SIM card worked really well. I used it on a Verizon Droid Turbo 2. (I coupled this with ExpressVPN to keep everything Google working as well.) Registration was a breeze and the support is very fast and responsive. I would typically have a response back in only a few minutes, enough to where I could essentially chat with support when I had questions. When I first used it I did have one problem, partially a misunderstanding on my part, but you should be ready for it. The plan is correct that it has 100 minutes, 50 local, etc. How the calls work though is that you have a call pool based on a Yuen value. Each type of call domestic or international, deducts from this at a different rate. For me, the first time I tried placing a call, I received a message stating that I had less than 7 Yuen, and to please recharge before running out. This occurred every time I tried to place a call. I was frustrated at this and immediately started chat with email, the response was amazing. They helped me to understand that the call will actually place after this message. Over the course of my trip I used it this way since I mainly needed the data anyway. Late in my trip I did have a case where the call was disconnecting after the message that I had less than 5 Yuen left (~50 international min left). So I jumped on the website they refer you to, and added 50 Yuen ($8USD) to my account and everything was fine again and the messages went away as well. If you think you'll really placing many calls, I'd recommend adding some extra time in the first day or two as a preemptive measure. It's quick easy and cheap. Keep the card the SIM card comes on in your wallet as storage for your normal SIM card. It makes it easy to keep track of.

Avoid this product!
My 4th time in Wuhan this year. Other SIM cards have worked for me. This one worked data upon landing in Wuhan, for a few hours into town, then would never work again. Even had printed the pdf manual, had it with me, and read it completely. Never tried voice as didn't need voice. Too late to file claim so lost my $40 and I'm not happy. Avoid this product! Updated 4 days later: I have gone into detail about what happened via email with Lvy customer service, who are prompt, courteous, and responsive. I was stunned when they said the reason my SIM showed "Suspended" and stopped working after less that 2 days, is because I had used up all my 2gig data. Something is very wrong here. I travel to China a lot and have never had less that .4gig remaining on a 2.0 gig SIM after 10 days of use. Yet they are claiming I used more that 1 gig per day. I no longer trust this company. They even claimed I have an overage charge and now owe them 27 yuan! No movies, no Youtube, no Google, just wechat, maps, and internet news, and taking photos is what I do with my cell. No calls. When theirs stopped working, I put in a backup SIM from Hong Kong airport, 2 gig, and .4 gig was left on it when I left China 8 days later.

Great so far; purchase and activate while in US is huge plus.
Really glad I purchased this SIM. I will be living/working in mainland China for 6 months and purchased this SIM while I was still in the US. SIM arrived quickly and I quickly registered the number (email to the support as directed) popped it into one of only unlocked phones and it came up fine with no issues and even connected to AT&T, confirming that you can use the SIM while in the US but with expensive roaming. Landed in China a few days later and turned the phone on. Took it less than 5 mins to connect to the network and was online before I got off the plane. I did have to set up the APN per the directions in order to get 4G data to work, but that was very easy to do as well with the directions. I have had the SIM for several days in China (Specifically in Shenzhen) and it has been working really well so far, with no issues. I will update as I go to other parts of mainland China and Hong Kong. Had to call customer service once as I was having some issue with getting the texts to check my data and airtime balance. Customer service was very nice and was able to help quickly. Perhaps there might be cheaper options as some other reviews mentioned but for me and my needs, this has worked very well even if at a slightly higher cost. Being able to purchase and activate it while in the US was a huge plus. Very happy all around.

Best purchase we made for our China trip
Update 2019- There are cheaper options now, including those direct from China Unicom. My wife is in China for a month for school, and she does not speak a spit of Mandarin. This card has kept her safe and sane as a stranger in a strange land. Sure, it costs twice as much as getting one in China, but you will be able to walk straight to your transportation without spending a half hour at airports. It allows you to use free Wi-Fi at places like Starbucks, which are required by the government to authenticate users through a domestic number. Opening a bank account in China requires a domestic number too. We used it with an Axon 7, which easily delivered 4G LTE speeds in Hangzhou, Shanghai, Luoyang, Beijing, and Zhengzhou, as well as the high speed rail trains in between. You have to email a photo of you passport with the phone number to activate. China hotels, Customs, airlines, and the Forbidden Palace Museum require access to your passport, so don't travel there if you can't bear to share this information. Tips- get a VPN so you can access Google Translate and Google maps. (We use Express VPN). 2 Gigs is sufficient for up to 2 weeks of travel. If you want to Skype frequently, watch media, or hot spot, be prepared to pay more. Refilling 2 Gigs is $30 at time of this review, 3 Gigs is $40, and 7 Gigs is $70. To save more on calls, add Skype to your phone. You can buy call credit that charges 2 cents a minute per call, plus 5 cents to connect, or a subscription which is even cheaper. Enjoy your trip.

Doesn't work as advertised and non existing support.
I bought this before leaving for china and got it activated. The activation process was very smooth. The SIM connected nice when arrived in China but whenever I called USA, an automated message saying 'not enough balance' was announced. I thought it could be a mistake and the problem would go away a day later but it stayed on all two weeks that I was in China. I never could use the 100 minutes that came with the SIM. I sent two emails to Lvycom support but were never answered. Data wise, I had no issues. I would not recommend this SIM to any.
