I'm just a beginner in the art field, and have had a few sessions encouraging me to use portable watercolour kits. You can get smaller, more portable ones, but I was drawn to the colours of this palette, as there are 48 which makes a great basic kit for a starter. It exceeded expectations. Arrived very promptly, and came with 10 sheets of watercolour paper, which I hadn't expected. It contains a water fillable brush, normal brush and ink pen to draw with. There's a colour mix card to test on when using it, plus a colour reference card that sits neatly over the paints when used. I'm doing nature drawing, so I'm particularly happy with the selection of greens. There are three little mixer slots in the tin lid, and a sponge for soaking off excess water. I'm over the moon with it. It would make a lovely gift for the amateur / starter artist in your life. It is a little chunkier than some others, but that is due to the excellent contents. Will definitely purchase again.

Colours are vibrant and feel high quality, mixes in nicely, definitely value for money.

Really lovely colours, quick to wet and apply. I'm totally inexperienced with watercolour but these seem great and I'm pleased

I needed a better set of watercolours with more colour options than my original travel tin. This had gorgeous range of colours that comes with a pen brush, watercolour brush and eraser etc. High pigments, really hold on the paper well. I dont use the brush provided but the brush with the inbuilt water resevoir you just squeeze would be useful if out and about! My only criticism is the brush its a bit cheap... so as a professional artist I would recommend you buy decent brush and enjoy your paints! edit: after 7 weeks of using these paints I had to return to upgrade my review! I have been really enjoying the metallic colours in the palette....and if you add them to the right colours you can have ANY metallic colour in your work! My latest painting of Tuna I added the silver to the purples and indigos for their tails, and to the lilacs on the bodies and it gives any work an ethereal touch. I now use the silver in with the base wash in all my fish I also used Gold in with oranges amd reds and it just turns the colour metallic so is a lovely addition.! 🥰. I also love the many shades of blue through to purples. There are also flourescent shades and these are like colour boosters. An Excellent palette and well worth the £23.

Grandson and daughter love these as so many colours to choose from and come I. A nice storage box to encourage them to put away each colour after use

PACKAGING: I purchased the Standard 48 Color Set. Artistro has completely nailed it with this matching, pink-themed packaging. Inside the velvety, embroidered drawstring pouch, is a sturdy floral tin with a hinged lid that will keep your 48 half pans safe and clean. The packaging is beautifully eye-catching and I’m thrilled to have it as part of my collection. WHAT’S INSIDE: Artistro designed this set with artists in mind and they included practically everything you need to start painting as soon as you open the box. They’ve included a triangular 2B PENCIL which fits very comfortably in the hand. There is also a great little SOFT ERASER that I just love. It erases very cleanly with no smudging and does not tear the paper. There is also a small SPONGE to dab your brush, which is a great addition to the set. The next thing we’ll look at are the two brushes that Artistro has included. The first is a small ROUND BRUSH that you can use for detail or small areas. The brush works great with no stray bristles. The second is a REFILLABLE ROUND WATER BRUSH. This brush nib was a little larger. I absolutely loved this brush. There is a push button on this brush to control the amount of water you want to release, which was an amazing feature. And finally, you get 48 HALF PANS, INCLUDING 4 METALLICS AND 4 NEONS. The pans are removable which I found to be an extremely helpful feature when only using certain colors to paint. Everything above has its own perfect cut-out spot in a tray that sits snugly right in the tin. Artistro also included a see-through SWATCH CHART that you can easily use to color match when using a reference. There is a BLANK SWATCH CHART that you can paint yourself. Each block has three sections so you can test each color’s saturation. They also included ten 5”x 8” sheets of 140lb/300g WATERCOLOR PAPER. The paper held up very well and did not buckle or warp. I’d love to get my hands on a whole block of this paper. THE PAINTS: Artistro did an amazing job putting these pan paints together. I haven’t had much luck with watercolor paints in the past; they were always chalky or gritty. So I just stopped using them. I wanted to give them one last try, and that’s when I was drawn in by Artistro’s tin packaging (I didn’t know the velvety pouch came with it, that was a big plus). I started by filling in the swatch card and noticed right away that these paints were in another league. The colors are vibrant and smooth. I wanted to do a whole piece of work using my normal techniques before forming an opinion. So I chose the colors I wanted, sprayed them, sketched my base, and got to work (work shown in this review). The colors are so creamy and lay very smoothly. I didn’t run into any grittiness at all. I used wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry techniques; and I didn’t struggle with the paint at all. I made mistakes, but they were entirely operator error. The colors are smooth and easily manipulated on the paper. (Color manipulation shown in video.) They are quite vibrant, highly pigmented, and they blended very easily. The pans stayed wet for awhile and didn’t need to be constantly sprayed to re-wet. I used the refillable brush for most of the piece. And I must say again, that brush is just amazing. I’ve never used a brush with the push button before, and that feature alone is why I’ll only use that brush from now on. That’s another thing I’d love for Artistro to sell separately. Artistro chose an excellent range of colors. There is a perfect balance of warm and cool colors. They even included white, which I’ve noticed a lot of sets do not. And if the color you want isn’t included, the colors mix and blend so easily that you could mix the color you want with no problems. They also included 4 metallic colors and 4 neon colors. I was quite impressed by these. The metallic colors laid down solid and they have a great metal sheen whether you shine a light on them or not. The neon colors also surprised me. They also laid down quite solid, and they stayed super bright. I think they would be fun use for a black light painting. FINAL THOUGHTS: This set has it all. Bravo Artistro! From the gorgeous packaging design, to the very well planned out contents, to the high performance of the paints themselves; this set deserves an extremely high rating. I’m an artist on a budget, as most of us are, and usually have to settle for lower quality. But these paints are very high quality at a nice affordable price. I recommend that anyone interested in watercolor should give these a try. The beautiful packaging would make them a very nice gift as well. I’ve already purchased a set for a friend and plan to purchase a second set to for myself. Thank you Artistro! First time buying love the kit. Colors are really nice. Comes with some watercolor paper and other items would definitely recommend. Not overly expensive. Great for starting out.

É stato amore a prima vista, oltre ogni aspettativa. Pratico, funzionale, bello, leggero, ben fatto. Questo cofanetto farebbe un super figurone anche come regalo. La sensazione è quella di una confezione che sembra una classica trousse da trucchi e invece è un kit artistico e creativo per pittura ad acquarello. Molto originale. Super utile per portarlo sempre con sé ovunque perché è portatile per le piccole dimensioni (vedi foto). É un cofanetto in metallo molto bello, ottimo materiale, sembra resistente, ma non pesa eccessivamente. Il kit ha 48 colori ad acqua, accesi e vivaci, oltre a strumenti per disegno-pittura, 10 fogli da disegno. Non vedo l'ora portarlo in giro con me per usarlo in qualsiasi momento e qualsiasi posto.

I already owned the travel set, and based on it's amazing quality and value, decided to buy the metallic/ chameleon set also. Here is my experience and opinion of both these fine products: 1. Travel set: I have a lot of water color sets and options, such that I really try to limit my purchases. But, sometimes a set is so good, especially for a budget friendly price that its worth owning--this is that set. I have not personally found a better performer for the price point!! Especially when I consider that this is a Chinese made art supply!! I'm sure there are better watercolors in the world...but they're all going to come from Europe and Japan, not China. So, those better paints will cost a bit more than this set. This set is literally better quality than many other sets at a similar price from the crafts store. Paint handles like watercolor should! It's not faint, it's not thick and chalky. This is a seriously good set for a beginner or casual hobbyist. Ideal for a teen or college age creative too! The travel set includes a range of standard type watercolors which are well pigmented and do granulate slightly! With cheaper sets like this, I personally expect more variability in the quality of paints (meaning that some will produce a better looking finished product than others with regard to the amount and quality of pigments). With this set, all the standard paints are rich and while there are slight differences between them, they're all useable. Now, this set also contains a few neon colors and metallics. That's where the quality takes a nose dive. Of course neons and metallics are tricky for almost any medium or company-- plenty of companies have a solid line of standard colors, and then somehow fail to produce neons and metallics that compare to the regular line. I have some very inexpensive neon paints that are way more pigmented and produce a better looking color saturation than these neon paints--but they are really chalky, almost like gouache in texture. So, hard for me to say about these...they still handle better than cheaper paints, but they're simply lacking some of the qualities of the standard color range. To me, the metallics are even worse. It's easy to find much better generic metallic paints than what's offered in this set. I notice that there's not a lot of reviews for both sets at once, not a lot of reviews for the metallic set and I feel like there's a reason for that: maybe most people would not buy the stand alone metallic set after sampling what's already included here. Travel set also includes some small watercolor papers, a few tools, and a handy guide with color names. It's very easy to transpose some of these colors when you swatch them out, so double check. One final thing to note: these paints aren't in removable pans. These are like cheaper paints in that they've obviously been made in some other mold, then glued in here. They look almost like they were formed in a long strip then sawed down to these sizes. So there's space between the pat of paint and it's section in this travel palette. That really really affects how these paints perform in way I consider negative. I always mist my paints with water to activate them. That method still helps a bit with this set, but not like it should! Meaning I had to mist the palette at least 6 times when I swatched it out and still yet had to come in and do most of the activation with a very wet brush. That does affect the control of the paints! These paints seem to need more water than what I would expect. It's not an insurmountable issue, and overall, I am very happy with this product, especially for the price. That's just a thing to keep in mind. 2. Metallic/ Chameleon set: They were very smart to include swatch sheets of both white watercolor paper and black card stock!! Most of these paints are awful on the white paper, but they really deliver a nice effect over black! Now, there's a ton of overlap between these paints and the metallics included in the travel set. You can compare the names in my photo where I show the Travel set on top (metallics are listed last on that swatch sheet) with the black and white metallic swatch sheets. Some of these, like the purple and green simply shouldn't have been repeated between these sets--theyre not good enough quality to justify them being included in any set that costs more than $5!! Seriously. And while the Gold has the same item name and number, it is invisible on white with this set, yet is plainly visible on white with the Travel set. That might be an issue for some people who specifically need a gold that can deliver. I think the Travel set is all around an excellent set, and I would recommend it strongly. If you don't already have some decent watercolors, then definitely invest in the travel set. The Chameleon set is more of a novelty item. If you're just looking for classic metallic watercolors, or jewel tones...you can honestly find what you're looking for at half the price of this set!! I would offer recommendations, but I think that's outside the scope of this review. This Chameleon set is really just for the person who has money to burn on novelty art supplies...or who is looking for that certain something that isn't readily available. I do give them credit for that-- having colors with a slight iridescent chameleon effect. I bought this set because it's the first I have found that offers that kind of paint. Plus, the travel set is stellar, so I had high expectations. To be fair, the paints in this set aren't too bad. Some of them granulate a bit. They do handle well. They seem like a quality product, it's just that there's numerous good classic metallic sets on the market that offer better color saturation for less money. But still, I don't want to discourage anyone from getting this set!! I am glad I have it. It's well packaged with the same extras as the travel set. The tin has a beautiful iridescent finish, too. I think the Chameleon set is ideal for someone like me who already has several sets of classic metallic watercolors but is looking for a different effect. My actual complaint about this set is that there's a lot of overlap between it and the travel set, so that destroys value for price if you already own the travel set. I wish this set would have only been new, Chameleon tones, with none of the classic metallics.
