Small but thorough
These are smaller than expected but the cards are thick and glossy so they seem durable. It is a nice gift for children and teens or even adults. You can use it as a teaching aid since some cards are illustrated and some gave fact boxes. In particular I was delighted that they had figures from all over the African diaspora such as Bob Marley, Nanny of the Maroons and Toussaint L'Overture from the Caribbean.I look forward to seeing a bigger size available also and updated versions.

Great for Learning
This deck of cards are good for students and little children to learn about their history. I would recommend this for teachers and parents who want to teach their kids or teenagers about their history. I would buy them again.

Beautifully illustrated deck of cards
This is a high quality, standard deck of cards with a bit of a difference. The backs of the cards are all the same, illustrated with a map of the world, so you can obviously play any regular single deck card game that you want with them. When compared to a standard deck of Waddingtons no1, they are about the same thickness, exactly the same height, but the cards are about 5mm wider with a smooth glossy finish on both sides. They feel nice to hold & if you happen to have slightly sticky fingers you can wipe them off with a tissue. The box the cards come in was sealed in shrink wrap with no easy open ribbon so I had to carefully dig at the corner with scissors to open them without damaging them. The cards inside were not wrapped.I was intending to play a card game with them but we didn't actually end up doing that. The 2-9 cards of each suit have a fact on them, about people, places and so on.The 2 Jokers, the 10, Jack, Queen, King & Ace in each suit have an illustration & some information about that person on them.Everyone who saw them ended up totally engrossed in reading through the cards, with quite a number of 'did you know?' conversations following.I'd say they would be a fantastic conversation starter if you were having friends round. For the past couple of years I have been making a conscious effort to include more Black history in Home Education history modules & I will be using these as an educational aide as well.I would recommend these for teachers in KS2 & up as they contain a number of people I'd never heard of (but will be learning more about) or anyone who just likes beautifully illustrated fact filled cards. If I were to nitpick, then I wish that the box that the cards were contained in had been given the same glossy finish as the cards.I can see it getting damaged easily as it is just matte printed card.I want to keep these (& play card games with them) for a long time.Thoroughly recommended.

100% recommend.
These are quite brilliant, when they arrived I just sat through and read each card and I learnt about so many important historical figures that I’d never heard of before. Of course there are the obvious Black Legends such as Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. but I had no idea that a black female nurse invented the first security system for example. This is brilliant for any age, but especially excellent for children. They are also a great topic of conversation during card games with people who haven’t seen them before.I want card sets with important figures from other cultures now, this was such an easy way to learn and gain an insight into a history that helped shape a culture/race.

Black history-themed standard set of playing cards
Priced at £7.99 with a 5% voucher at the time of this Amazon Vine review, this set of playing cards which arrives shrink wrapped is nicely illustrated and themed around black legends from six continents. They are a standard set of 54 playing cards that the usual card games can be played with but they have the added bonus of including in this 20 illustrated story cards, 32 black history cards and 2 illustrated jokers. This makes these cards both interesting and informative, and they would be very useful in an education setting as well. The overall quality of the cards is very good and similar to main brand ones. I am very pleased with this product and I am happy to recommend.

Nice quality Black legends playing cards
Black Culture playing cardsAs a regular card playing family, we found these cards thicker and better quality then most standard playing cards, with a nice glossy finish which means they are wipeable which is handy as we tend to play on the dinner table after dinner. Although the glossy finish did make them a little bit trickier to shuffle for some people, but not really a major issue once you get used to the,.We loved the fact that are are also educational and that you can learn about some very important figures as you play! My particular favourite card has got to be Nelson Mandela a true legend!
