Q: Will this fit into a carry-on suitcase? What is the size of this when it is not extended all the way? I want to travel with it in my carry-on bag.

It's 24 1/2" long when not extended. The head is about 3" across. And it's got a little weight - not a fragile piece of equipment.

Q: does this extension arm work in my Manfrotto Befree carbon Tripod? can it be easily assembled/screwed?

This arm weighs more than your entire tripod. It attaches easily with a 1/4" or 3/8" thread mount, so I suppose it's possible to attach it to a QR plate, or remove the ball head from the center column and attach it directly, but no telling how stabile it will be.

Q: Can the camera only face downward?

As far as I can tell you can rotate the shafts 360 degrees, you can also attach a ball head on extender for more flexablity.
