We had several APC - UPS backups that have some age on them for the price these are a great value.

The pair of UB1280 batteries I ordered to use in my two APC Back-UPS ES BE550G arrived on time and do indeed fit in the battery slots. However, due to really poor packing the male spade connectors were messed up. As seen in the photo, one negative connector was weirdly mangled. I was able to re-bend the connectors, but I don’t know if something was damaged underneath the plastic due to the original multiple impacts that must have taken place. Also, as others have pointed out, the connectors are smaller than those on the batteries that came with the APC BACK-UPS. They seem to fit but are likely not as secure. I can’t speak to the charge of the batteries or if they will prove to hold up under load ... so the loss of two stars is really due to the poor shipping - just a little “stuffing” to prevent the batteries from sliding around in the oversized box would have prevented the damage.

Came fully charged. So far so good.

A search for "BP8-12" brings up this listing on amazon.com, though "BP8-12" is nowhere to be found in the actual listing. I got so used to seeing "UB1280" listings appear for "BP8-12" searches, I eventually thought the 2 specs were interchangeable.Maybe not; hence, this review.Batts shipped read "UB1280k" on the side instead of the "UB1280" in listing. Company assured me they are the same. Charged 3 days with UPS off. Turned on- LCD shows 53%. With no load attached, cut power to UPS and batteries drained in less than a minute. Charged another 24 hours with UPS off. Turned back on- LCD shows 53%. Again, with no load attached- cut power to UPS and batteries drained almost instantly. Company shipped replacements gratis... same results.It's been 3 weeks. UPS has been off and charging. Turn on- LCD shows 56%. I disconnected batteries to inspect everything (again). Re-connected. Cut power to UPS. Turned on UPS (again, no load attached). Restored power to UPS after a couple minutes- LCD shows 61%. WTH?? ATP, I'm not sure what is going on. Either UPS is bad or these aren't the right batts or I need to perform a manual calibration.After manual calibration, (if necessary) I will purchase batts from vendor that explicitly state "BP8-12 replacement, test, and update review. thx

What can you say about a sealed lead acid battery. It fits in my UPS that takes that part number battery (amazing huh?), it charges and it cost less than some others. Until I know it is delivering a good backup service one year from now I have no idea how good it is.
