Sturdy, Accurate and Excellent Quality
I work in custom fabrication and CNC machining, this rule (much like my 6 inch 182-207) is extremely handy to have around.

Top Quality!
I’ve owned a lot of rulers over the years, and the Mitutoyo 182-125 (12") is in a completely different class from typical hardware-store rules. The first thing that stands out is the build quality. The tempered stainless steel feels exceptionally rigid and precise, the satin chrome finish cuts glare beautifully, and the graduations are deeply etched and extremely easy to read. Everything about it feels engineered rather than manufactured to a price point. What really makes this rule special, though, are the design details that only become obvious once you actually use it for layout and measurement work. The rule uses a true-zero (flush-end) design, meaning the graduations start exactly at the physical edge of the rule rather than being inset from a protected margin. That makes direct measurements and line transfer far more accurate and intuitive. I also greatly appreciate the scale layout. Each edge is dedicated to a single scale rather than combining inch and metric scales on opposite edges of the same face. That means you can always read the active scale in a natural orientation without flipping the rule upside down or dealing with descending numbers. It sounds minor until you use a properly designed rule like this — then it’s hard to go back. This is one of those tools where the precision, ergonomics, and manufacturing quality all quietly reinforce each other. Expensive for a ruler? Maybe. But as a precision hand tool, it absolutely earns it.
