Do the over-the-door hangers damage the door frame as a result of repeatedly opening and closing the door over time?

I've only had this item for a couple months, but it hasn't damaged the door at all. I live in an old farm house and the door frame is a bit off on the closing side so there is a little rub mark on the inside top of frame. I open and close this door daily and wouldn't be afraid to use in a newer house. It works very well for my older ironing board, iron and a few other items.

Will it fit over a 1-3/4" thick door?

I would say no, opening is roughly 1-1/2"

How much weight can this hold?

Not sure but I have an ironing board that is not light on it and an iron.

Does this block the door from opening fully??

The basket part is 13" deep. So if your laundry room door is near the corner of the wall as it opens you will have about 3" of space to open the door fully without the unit. When I put the unit on, it kept the door open a full 10" from the wall. That's a lot. I'm returning mine.
