Great mix of info and photos
This guide is one of my favorite formats that Lonely Planet offers. It has a great mix of information and colorful pictures. The information seems up to date and the layout is easy to follow. I’m currently using this book to plan a trip and it has sparked quite a few new ideas that I had not found through any online blogs.

Great reading but map and photos can fall short
Lonely Planet is always wonderful when you want to read the history and culture of the places you are visiting. However, as a travel guide, the text and map coordination is not great. Often the places mentioned in the text are hard to find or not in the map at all. For example for Quepos, 9 places are listed where we can go to eat (p376), but the map on p374 shows only 4 places. It is also frustrating when a photo can tell the story much better. On p215, it says resplentdent quetzal is the "most famous" bird in the cloud forest, and "This beauty is as colorful and exotic as its name suggests ..." Don't you wish there is a picture of this bird in the book, somewhere?
