good stuff
Bought the stuff for backpacking. Now I eat it as home. Good stuff. Cold soak for 2 hours for best cold soaking results.

More like rice pudding but good for camping
This pack of 6 Mango Sticky Rice, Freeze-Dried from ReadyWise just requires boiled water and about 15 minutes to provide you with a hearty portion of hot food for camping, backpacking or during emergency situations. This brand is similar to other brands we've tried like Backpackers Pantry, Mountain House and Ready Hour. We hadn't seen this particular flavor in other brands so were interested to compare. The meals are prepared right in the bag and the portion size for this one is enough to easily feed 2 people. The instructions are simple and easy to follow and they even provide some fun reading material on the bags to keep you occupied while waiting for your meal. If you've ever had Mango Sticky Rice you'll find that this is more like rice pudding than the original dish. Still, the flavor is good although you may need to let it sit a few minutes longer to ensure all the rice gets rehydrated fully. I did find that the zip-lock closure was difficult to seal properly but it's mostly because the powdered contents can clog the grooves of the closure. Overall, I'm not sure we'd chose this flavor again for camping but meals like this are also handy to have during power outages or other emergency situations. The expiration on these are 2037 so they appear to be good for around 14 years from now. At around $42 for the 6-pack they are competitively priced so I'll give these 4 stars.

Good dessert, enough for 2 people, not too sweet. Contains some starch as filler.
Tastes good with the bits of fruit included in with the rice, I wish there was more.I would say since it's not a main dish but a dessert, the portion in one bag is sufficient for 2 people. With the amount of water as indicated in the instructions in the package, it comes out pretty watery, not just sticky, so you may want to add a bit less water.Otherwise good, from a brand that normally adds a lot of starch to their dishes, this one doesn't seem to have so much. Keep in mind that it's based on rice though.

Rice porridge, not rice
Following the instructions, my dish also turned out to be like a rice porridge, and not rice, as other reviewers noted. Taste is pretty good for freeze dried food, but this seems to be more of a snack-type item, and not a hearty meal. It does not include meat, so it's not as filling by my standards. It's got its own taste flavor, so I can't really see myself eating with another item such as a stew. It's more of a snack and maybe dessert, but that's a bit of a stretch. I would strongly recommend trying the taste, but consider buying 1 instead of a bulk pack to start.

Pretty darn tasty.
I really like this mango sticky rice. It's sweet enough to satisfy a dessert craving, but not so sweet that it seems unhealthy.I actually had it for breakfast one morning on the trail and it filled me up every bit as much as my usual oatmeal. As with any freeze dried meal, preparation is simple. Boil some water, pour it in the bag, stir it up, and let it sit for a few minutes. Then like magic, it's ready to eat.So easy.My oldest child goes backpacking with me occasionally. They are quite picky and even they liked it.I don't often buy freeze dried meals as I prefer to dehydrate my own. Most are really high in sodium which is bad for my high blood pressure. This meal actually is very low sodium so I can enjoy it guilt free.Delicious and relatively healthy.I recommend it.

Great for Backpacking
We got these for having a lightweight treat while backpacking so we tested one out and it tasted delicious. One packet makes a good amount. My husband and and son both had a bowl full and there was still some left over. It isn’t crazy sweet so my husband added a little sugar but my son liked it just as it was. They liked it so much they want me to buy more options by this company. The packs are lightweight so they are great for anytime you need a lightweight food option. Just add some boiling water and have some instant food.

A workable dessert in a bag
I have tried a few different ReadyWise meals. My taste buds have some they like and some they don't care much for. That goes for most freeze dried meal in a bag vendors though. The only other dessert/ snack have tried from ReadyWise are the cookie bites. Which I really like. Those are a crunchy little sweet bite of goodness. I am not going to speak to the nutritional value of the rice as it looks to mainly be a true sweet dessert. So keep that in mind if you're looking to balance a diet for longer term. This reconstitutes into more of a porridge according to the directions. It takes a spoon, not a fork. I did find I had to let a hot soak go longer than instructed. Otherwise, I kept finding hard bits of rice. Not unusual if you've tried freeze dried meals before. The mango pieces are there and readily tasted. I kept a star as it was just a little sweet. Not like sweet tooth satisfying sweet to me. As essentially a carb source for easy transport and to change it up it does work for me. One bag is more than I can do at a sitting. So you may want to look up how to split and freeze these kind of kits.

Good value
Lightweight. Well packaged. Generous serving size. Rehydrates in approximately 10 minutes. I have a lot of experience with this type of product, so I added approximately 10% more water and got excellent results. Not so sticky and not to sweet. There is definitely mango flavor, it’s not subtle. If you’re not a fan of mango, this isn’t for you.
