Nice design, but loses too much water
I ran a bunch of tests w/ this diverter before installing it and found that it consistently lets about 25% of the water fall through and not get captured. The screens and first flush worked well, but I need to capture more of the water as we get so little all summer. If you have a lot of debris coming through your gutters the screens might be an issue, but I have gutter guards so not much debris. However, the 25% was a show stopper for me so I'm returning them.Other issues: The bypass switch is hard to use even when the washers are dry, and when they swell up it's almost impossible to change the bypass switch.

An absolute pain.
Appears well made which is saying something for a nightmare design.I purchased a first set of two and then having cut all the pipes to fit this specific design when they did not work and thinking it was pilot error that they wasted so much water, I purchased a second to attempt to modify it enough to make it work. I bought new washers--the only replacement part available it appears--and tried repeatedly to contact customer support. There is noneThe way this "works" is the bottom part has a set of fiber washers threaded on a rod connected to a diverter above it. The idea seems to be that these washers swell--don't take the "probably meant to absorb water" mesh thing off as they already have trouble doing their job--and expand enough when wet that eventually they close the gap above them. It ain't quick and it ain't reliable. Expect a LOT of water waste. I left some of the washers in a glass of water for days and that I could see there was no difference in diameter. So much for soaking. I put ALL of them on new ones and old ones to make the stack higher and that did help. Help, not cure.Don't try to use the shut off feature--you will need pliers to get the thumb switch closed again, and other reviewers note they don't look like they are going to take repeated abuse. Which if the design actually worked one would probably not need. The internal screen people refer to in clogging and water waste issues is:1. Directly behind the outlet hose connectors2. Not visible--though in desperation you can attempt to back flush it with a garden hose and a lot of pressure through the virgin water outlets--I say virgin because they virtually never let any water out.3. Really hard to get to.To do anything to this unit except clear the visible top screen you have to unscrew it from its location and pry it out of the drain line. The pieces, once out are not easy to disassemble--for quite some time I did not even think you could be taken apart. Trust me, I tried.People talk about maintenance. There are zero instructions, zero customer support and frankly it is a huge waste of water because there are so many elements that can fail. If you are into constant disaster mitigation this is the product for you.

Out of 3 kinds we tried, this one is the winner.
We have 3 used different kinds of diverter on our rain barrels. This one wins. After 3 years of use, I'm replacing everything else with the Advanced. It works great, comparatively easy to install, much more durable. We have brick siding. I wouldn't recommend it if you have wood siding.Clean Rain makes another diverter, the Ultra. Don't get that one. It's more expensive and was the first to fail on us.Also tried the Oatey. Simple, unobtrusive, works as advertised, but clogs easier, is harder to clean out, and doesn't prevent mosquitoes from accessing the barrel through the gutters.UPDATE JULY 2018:One of the Advanced has failed after a year. We are trying to source parts to replace the floats, which appears to be the issue. Another has failed after about 2 years - same issue. Removed 1 star for this. If replacement parts fails to fix the problem, we'll be back to the drawing board.

Fantastic Product
I'll start with my conclusion. This product paid for itself within 3 months of owning it, and now is saving me money every time it rains.I live in Houston, it rains a lot, but very sporadically. I've had ridiculously high water bills the past few years because of how sporadic the rainfall is, and my need to top off my pool so that the pump runs correctly. I bought two of these with the express intent of helping to top off my pool water levels. If you are reasonably handy and willing to cut a portion of your gutter (which I am both), this takes two tools and about 30 minutes of time. You need a hacksaw ($10 at lowes) or a recipricating saw, and a screwdriver. It is very easy to hook up a couple hoses and run to your pool or some sort of retention barrell or area. There is a screen that keeps all leaves out of your hose, but will allow small amounts of asphalt from the roof to get through. If you are just watering something or topping off the pool, this is a very, very minor problem. Not enough to bother me.In summary, this was a great purchase. I am trying to figure out how i can add another one to my house so I can collect even more water from my roof.

Diverter Works ok. Less water than expected. Minor issue with pass through Switch
I've installed this on the downspout from our garage. It works pretty good. I filled a 275 Gallon tote in short time during a large rain storm. I do get less water in diversion mode then I thought I would. As a result I have added a secondary diverter to the top of this 'primary' diverter that I can manually set after the debris has been filtered out or first flushed out. In that mode I get all the water from the roof. The one issue I have with this unit is the switch. For some reason it is very hard to put into pass through or no diversion mode (switch out and up). I have to use a screw driver and pry it open. Maybe it's clogged or I got a little paint inside it when I painted it to match the gutter color. Not sure. I will follow up with my findings later and post pics as well
