Trailer Life Directory 2012: Guide to Rv Parks and Campgrounds (Good Sam Club)

Best Campground Directory out there, but....
I have used the Trailer Life Campground directories for decades. It is improved every year, and I try to upgrade at least every 2 years. It is definitely the best out there.....so far.PROS: A most helpful listing is last year's price ranges for each campground. Another is the addition of addresses for most RV parks for GPS use.CONS: 1) Trailer Life is VERY reluctant to list smaller parks and Mobile Home parks that allow short term use. This is greatly needed in many cities while campers need to be "in town" for less "recreational" purposes. At least let us know IF they exist so, in a pinch we can stop where needed (and not need to drive many miles out of the city to park for a night or two). 2) Many cities that have county/state fairgrounds have numerous camp sites...even with full hookups. They are almost never listed. 3)National Parks are usually listed by the nearest town. Often, these towns are so small that one would have no clue that the listings are for a major National Park....or,when there are several NPS campgrounds, they often are each listed under a different town, and not by National Park.I believe that these 3 CONS are because Trailer Life charges a fee for campgrounds to be inspected and listed. If they do not pay their fee, they may not be listed, or in the case of National Parks (who won't pay fees), the listings favor private campgrounds that support TL. We pay good money for the book, and should be treated better.

Best Directory we have used
This directory is very complete and has all the information you need to know about each campground. It is the best directory we have used. The driving directions are very good, and the GPS coordinates will get you there if the road signs are down (and you have a GPS or we use On-Star). The only negative is that the campgrounds are listed by town, and sometimes you don't know all the little towns near where you are looking for a campground. There have been a couple times when we knew there was a campground where we were headed, but needed driving directions, a phone number to check availability, etc., but had a difficult time finding it in the book, because it was listed under a different town. I wish they would add an index at the back of each state's section, so you could look them up by name, or have a detailed fold-out map that showed all the campgrounds with a reference number to the actual listing. Other than that, this is a great directory. The information is the best of any campground directory.

Good guide for trip planning
Bought this and several others - though slightly out of date. I wanted to see the extent of available camping facilities as we are planning to get an RV and do some traveling now that we are retired. I had heard that older editions provided more info than the current books available in the stores today. Seems to provide the info I wanted.

A Must Have Directory For All RVers!
We buy this directory every year, and it has become our "go to" resource for all of our overnighting RV needs. We took a cross country trip a couple of years ago and it was a saving grace. We have found all of the reviews to be spot-on accurate which is a piece of mind when travelling in unknown areas. The only area I personally would like to see more reviews of (and ratings) are county, state, and federal campgrounds.
