The Bay Area Forager: Your Guide to Edible Wild Plants of the San Francisco Bay Area Paperback – Unabridged, May 1, 2015

This is a fantastic little book! Some people complain that there are not maps showing where some plants can be found, but anyone who has hiked any one of the numerous trails in the bay area or just paid attention while walking down the street will recognize many of the plants listed in this book. Hubby and I live in Santa Cruz County and we were delighted to discover many plants growing alongside the little trail behind our house. We love this because it opens your eyes to the wild bounty around you, makes our world a little bigger. We may not do much foraging, but being able to name the "weed" in front of you has a pleasure of its own.

I love this book so much I have bought it as a gift for several people over the years. I've grown up in the bay area, so I have some familiarity with the plants that grow in the area, and I still learned a lot from this book! It has excellent information and great color photos that make it easy to confidently identify plants.

The full page color photos are absolutely lovely, and descriptions are very good.

Great book for San Francisco Bay area Foragers. I've seen a lot of these plants here in San Francisco. Free Veggies. Just wash really good and becareful of roadsides, Freeways because of toxins. My learn the UET. (Universal Edible Test from US Army). Also, Carry Activated Charcoal in case of poisoning. Activated Charcoal can come from FRESH Burned wood. - The black stuff. And if in doubt, don't eat it. Learn Plant ID Characteristics. Pinnate, Palmate leaves. But at least Carry Activated Charcoal. Works for all know plant poisons except mushrooms and ergot poisoning. Becareful, do a little research and have fun.Chuck

Great beginners foraging book! I learned a lot of useful information. I just wish there were more pictures to assist in identification.

i have a friend who is interested in foraging. guess what area they live in. this book is perfect

Good read, but I was a little disappointed it didn't have maps or lay out what's good to forage by different seasons.Maybe because the book states that foraging in public places in frowned upon by the law.
